I'm looking at buying a 95 international 9600 cabover as a restoration project. It will be the first truck ill have done this to before as I'm young and an amateur mechanic but I know a lot of people and have a lot of resources to help me if needed. This truck is an old Walmart truck at 608k miles. The lady who bought it from auction has had it as a farm truck hauling grain since. Its got a 11.1 detroit and a 10 spd eaton in it and runs like a top. Down the road id like to swap motors to a 12.7 detroit for some extra power. My question is what are some things I should look at before I buy it and get in too deep on it.

Well, 1st, not a cabover fan, but congratulations, the 9600 was a heck of a truck. Everything the old Transtars weren't. Hauled a lot of this countries freight, 2nd, if it's a Walmart truck, 608K sounds a bit low, more like a million 608, but if it's solid, should be okay. Newer Detroits are great, and 10 speed is all you need. I guess, everyone wants to know what you intend to do with it? For a starter truck, I give you a lot of credit. Starting with a cheapie ( I hope you didn't pay much) is the smartest way to start out.
Any pics?
Brettj3876 and spsauerland Thank this. -
Yea 1.6M sounds more like it. What's the hours read?

And another thing, if it hauled grain, some real ball-busters there, check the suspension for wear.
baha Thanks this.
