Goal one was the headache rack install. Buuuuut, tightening bolts was going to be a pain with the air tank in the way, so...
1 gall of water in secondary air tank, drain valve was 1/3 up the tank... because after a past fix they installed it end for end, or on the wrong side
In order to remove the air tank, had to remove the battery box, its only 10% oem at this point.
Batt box, when it started rusting, they just cut a peice of 1/8 sheet metal and welded it on top of the rusty stuff.
No rubber isolator mat, no rubber or pvc wire protection going through the wire entry hole.
At least these are new batteries. 9/22, i prefer 4, but ill get around to it when i swap one for 2 deep cycles and isolate the front 2 starting batteries. (Probably need to look for a new box then too)
JoeyJunk, RedForeman and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
Headache rack on, filled with chains and binders
Air tank back on
Batt box back on, only found 3 major issues i need to fix on the wiring, all three are bare corroded grounds
Starting to spit rain, looks like its radio, shifter knob and misc electrical/creature comfort stuff on the inside tomorrowAttached Files:

As close as they clipped these for the splice, theres no *expletive* point in them not cutting out the original connections
Replacement harness
Imstalled
Cb area cutout and installed
Looks like someone made the dash their home at one point.
Removed old 20 inch gen 1 smart wheel steering, the whole top plastic assembly the trolley valve and turn stalk was attached to is wrecked, just going to steal my wheel and needed bits from the grey truck while i wait on parts to arrive. Apparently the turn signal stalk they put on was not the correct one, no mounting holes match anything on there, so they just put 2 big band clamps around the column. It worked, but i dont think much of their solution, the right one isnt that expensive. Trolley valve was barely being held in place.
Got the harness figured out on cruise and jakes, removed as much of the extra and useless wires as i could.
Install my wheel, switches for cruise etc tmrw, also gotta figure out if the city horn is dead or just the current wiring, probably just pit it on a momentary switch, i hate a horn button in the steering wheel.
Then started working on my lettering.
Apparently a super small sleeper means my dot numbers are gonna have to live on my fuel tanks
Not enough real estate on the door and as for the sleeper i dont want to be running over the joints and rivets.
And of course the kenworth pass door doesnt give me a very decent canvas
Brettj3876 and RedForeman Thank this. -
Tach was .... "sticky", Opened it up, its accurate again now that the needle no longer touches the glass. Barely touched it and the needle disintegrated down to what you see.
Replaced disgusting (messed up and leaking) shift knob with an eaton lookalike from amazon
Removed smartwheel, made new harness, attached to new set of rocker switches, cut hole, mounted to open space in switch panel
The good, cruise works.... to 1300 on the switch, wont go higher rpm wise, not sure till i test drive in gear if thats only for neutral, or in gear too.
Jakes. The 2 cylinder jake works fine, the 4 cylinder solenoid is sticking if i activate it, its a fight to keep rpm up to not kill it. So for now i just have the weakest jake set up on the switch.
Wheel from my grey truck installed while i wait for new wheel/housing, new turn signal stalk.
Moving horn switch over with the cruise and jakes.
Wiper wash pump motor dead, got one ordered, but just gonna steal my existing brand new one on other truck at the moment.
Bolted gps mount to top of switch cluster like in other truck, same for phone mount, need to do usb ports yet, pictures forthcomingRubyEagle, JoeyJunk, Brettj3876 and 2 others Thank this. -

Mostly cosmetic today, that and an hour deliberating what to do before just rewiring the headlight tail and marker switches from the stupidity that is the smartwheel.
Installed my phone mount, 2x 2 gang usb ports for gps, phone, headset amd 1 spare port. Cleaned all the tools out of the truck gave a good vacuum
Lifted the bunk for the 2 side compartment access. found
2 good stainless exhaust clamps
1 brand new slack adjuster
2 brand new throttle position sensors (150$+ genuine cat parts)
1 spare (old) mirror (probably the heat no longer works)
And plenty of assorted debris and trash. Nothing disgusting.
Then began work on cleaning up all my tools and trying to get everything in the shop organized, so i can find my tools as i need them again. Probably another good 2 hours of sorting tomorrow amJoeyJunk, Midwest Trucker and RedForeman Thank this. -
Bunch more stuff
Bought a cricut and did all my own truck lettering etc. If i do it 2 times, im money ahead over buying it out, quite the learning curve though
Pass side step box robbed from old truck, needed to be removed and redone probably 4 years ago, had to cut the bolt heads (theyre double duty, also frame bolts) off due to alum/steel corrosion and the mounts were completely wrecked. So had to steal the 36 inch tarp box mounts.
New air lines attached, slide bar up high installed
Stuffed step box full of fluid stuff, and felt edge protectors
Mounted a second 5 foot box to the trailer on the drivers side, probably try to keep all the tarps in that one, straps, j hooks etc in the pass side (no doors to under the bunks, so cant store them where i would like to)
Installed new horn and switch, didnt feel like trying to figure out factory horn wire from smartwheel and existing horn is so inaccessible behind motor, was easier and faster to just pop a new 8 dollar amazon horn on.
Fixed an air leak or 2 in the air bag supply lines
New air governor, need to adjust lower yet, but that didnt fix the more or less constant purge happening at the top, she sneezes every 15 seconds once the air is up.
Patched ac clutch wire.
Ac works, interesting freeze switch setup, its adjustable, but its a kw air box, so air is subpar, probably need to get a new shoreline or jemali box, its not falling apart as bad as a few ive messed with. But i guarantee its packed with dirt and debris.
Ac comes out 55 degrees, just not very strong, no volume
Finance company sent my title out to me ups next day on monday, on tuesday, the ups driver MUST have seen me, no way for him to slap the sticker where he did without seeing me, this is in the sole 30 minutes the wife wasnt home sitting on the back porch (where he put the sticker) as a process. They just deliver your package to an "access point" location... the next day, whenever they feel like it... so next day ended up being today. Well got to bmv and sorted that, 2290, temp plate registration should be done tmrw.
Went and took the truck and trailer for a ride to a cat scale, 2000 lb lighter than my other truck... so i can load 51k now legally.
My rand mcnally 750 is being stupid, supposed to acquire time amd dat from satellite, it thinks its about 8 hr off of what it actually is. So thats a pita i need to try and sort out
In other excellent news, turning radius is amazing now
In less fun news, the headlights are... dim would be acceptable. These are less than that.
Need to figure out how to put turn and brights lights in cab that dont blind me, fine during daytime, nighttime, they illuminate cab too well.
Swapped to a (relatively) standard style wiper blade, got the conversion kit for old kws, need to get some blades tmrw, also ordered some aftermarket clip on sprayers and new hose, already changed fluid pump.
Got most of the tools im going to carry in truck situated
Just need bedding and to sort out what i want in the last 2 bins of tools, electrical bin and vise grip/pliers/etc type bin.
Would like to change the seat, armrests arent adjustable (that i can tell) and are way too stiff.
Sure i did more,JoeyJunk, RedForeman, Magoo1968 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Gps update is a pain, 6 hrs later on a 100+MB connection had to just factory reset it and try again, though the first round of updates seem to have fixed the time issues
Tried putting led indicators in dash for turn, brights, but ended up having to keep an incandescent in each turn slot (tucked in dash) because i NEED 1 amp draw to trigger the turn flasher... supposedly i found a flasher on amazon that only needs .2 amp draw, hopefully that works.
Adjusted clutch, much nicer trying to put it in gear now from stopped.
Stole my seat from other truck, much more comfortable.
Got the right wipers installed
Should be good to go pickup a load tomorrow, delivers monday, but i can test out how she does under a load at least.JoeyJunk and RedForeman Thank this.
