I have a 98 factory 550 6ts in my 06 glider. My ecm went out, so I bought a used ecm from a junkyard. The file on this ecm was a 450hp pre low nox 5ek file. A guy I know put fls fts codes in, as well as injector codes. Truck seems to run really well but does get up to 900 on the pyro pretty consistently, grossing 155k pounds. What I'm wondering is if this file is ok to run on a factory 550 6ts, as far as timing and compression is concerned? I am happy with the power, but I don't want to hurt this motor.
Thanks!
6ts 40 pin file

900 is fine.
What you should do is get that ecm calibrated for your engine . Right now the timing is calibrated for the engine it came off of. So timing could be anywhere..
After that if your happy with the power then run it. -

fitting bigger injectors with a file that thinks it has significantly smaller injectors is one of the things we do to make decent grunt on factory files. I often fit 3.0 tip 8502 into engines with files thinking they are controlling 2.8 tip 8501 injectors.
personally I would just flash your 6ts 550 file onto this ECM, its a fast simple task.Last edited: Dec 24, 2018
Oxbow and spsauerland Thank this. -
Thanks everyone for the response! Yes afaik, the file was from a motor with 57 injectors and I have 58 injectors, which was another one of my concerns. As far as injector codes- they are hot codes. 5323 (I always mix it up, but the generic hot injector codes people use).
I have access to hundreds of cat files, but have no way of knowing what file is which. Does anyone know what a pre low nox 550 58 injector file is labeled as? I would love to flash to this file and see how it runs, and feel better knowing it's right.
Thanks again!

if you want more fuel and power fit a bigger injector, don't stretch your PW on the small tip injectors. wrong way to make powerLast edited: Dec 29, 2018

I don't know what file my original ecm has because it's dead. No point in going bigger than a 58 injector for my purposes. Hell even 57s would work just fine, I just don't want to run a 57 file with 58 injectors. Just need to know what a 550 58 file is called so I can load it.
