Nope, I dont think we got it, I saw that serial prefix in SIS and wondered the same thing. I remember it saying australia by the arrangement number though.

No we went from a 6NZ to the MBN bridge motor before the 9NZ went into production. Everything I've seen about the 9NZ is the same as the 6NZ. CAT ran out of numbers for 6NZ and started the 9NZ, but made no changes to it.

Where i work we have a good mix of cat engines from old mech.B's to new ACERTS and the three 6nz 475's we have seem to run the best stock for stock. real smooth and crisp. Could be the trucks they are in also i guess. Just my .02 cents though. very few problems with those also

Im looking at a truck with a 6ts, 3406e, recent overhaul, with CAT warranty.
Should I steer clear and find a 6nz instead? My problem is that I want a truck with the older style (2000 and older) dash.. I ran the 3406e's when they were new, and loved them, and dont remember having any reliability issues.
Is it worth the trouble of finding a newer truck, and switching to the older dash, or will the 3406e perform well enough? When the older engine is done, ill glide a 6nz in it, just wanted your opinions on the older engine in terms of fuel mileage, etc.

I wouldn't be afraid of a 6ts at all, epescially with a CAT warranty.

I've owned a 6TS and a 6NZ in identically speced trucks. There is no real difference in mileage or performance.

Funny... I bought my '98 truck because it had the older style dash and it also had a 6TS in it. I had similar concerns with the 6TS because there don't appear to be too many out there compared to the popular 6NZ's. Have you had any issues with yours?

So is the 3406E about the same as the C-16 as in power? They put out 600HP and 2050TQ?

Cat built two different 3406E models. One was a 14.6L that could be rated at 310 Hp to 550 Hp. The second 3406E was a 15.8L, it was rated either as a 575 Hp or a 600 Hp

The smaller 14.6L engines were built from 1994 to 1999. The larger 15.8L engines weren't introduced until the end of 1998. The 3406E models were discontinued in truck applications when the C-15 and C-16 engines came out. The C-15/C-16 engines have the same cubic inch displacement, along with the same bore and stroke as the earlier 3406E models. In fact the 15 and 16 refers to the engine size in liters. Cat decided to call the 3406E 14.6L a 15 liter engine and the 15.8L a 16 liter engine
