hello to everyone , I am new in the industry and need an advise. I just Purchased 2001 Miller 7 car carrier ,which is not self contained , can I modify it to make it self contained ? or it is better to install the PTO on the Truck itself ? thank you in advance

It depends on what you want to do. You can modify it with an electric pump, which is never a bad idea. We run both, a PTO and electric back up system. Some places we deliver do not want us to idle, so they use the electric. The drivers don't like the electric as much as the PTO because it's slower. The electric back ups saved us money too. When we have an engine or PTO problem, they can unload the cars. With our head racks, you can't open the hood without raising the deck, so it would really suck not having the electric back ups to get the hood open if it wont start. I've seen people run strictly electric, but we don't, so I can't say if they're as reliable as a PTO. You can get PTO parts easier than electric motor parts on the road. I know for our electric backups, the only place I've found motors in stock was Cottrell and C.F. Bender.

If your new, get familiar with ww.cfbender.com there really good guys and have a lot of stuff for car haulers. A lot cheaper than Cottrell on most parts too. Not sure about Miller, but they're very knowledgeable on car haulers.
