    Hi everyone,
I want to post a question to all active drivers out there about parking a 5th Wheel RV at truck stops. I have retired after 45 years on the road and my wife and I are embarking on our future dream of traveling around this country. On rare occasions we would like to stop at truck stops to eat and remember the old days of frequenting the truck stops and talking with drivers.
We know that Flying J has dedicated RV parking at most stops but not all and we were wondering if anyone or everyone would answer a question about the reserved parking spots at most truck stops. We were never a fan of paid parking when we were driving but those days of the free parking are probably over as we knew them. We would like to reserve a paid spot on occasions when we are not at a RV Park and just driving but we also would not want to offend or upset any professional driver.
We hope that you professional drivers out there would comment on this and we will take your comments to heart and never offend anyone by just parking in a free spot and deny a driver a place to park for his time of rest. Thank you everyone and we hope to see you all in the days to come.

Go ahead and park in a free spot, most all the trucks besides you didn’t spend one dime there.
Just don’t slide your slide outs out to take up 2 spots.

Yeah, sliding out you popouts will probably get you hate from some drivers. I'd suggest at the very least parking at one of the end spots next to a curb. Then you can use your pop outs on the curb side without issue

Thanks for the early replies. I would have parked a big rig on either side of this clown just for principle. It surely doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how to park.

I agree, however it's as much about the inconvenience as it is about the safety for the rv'r. There has been drivers shot over being cut off at the fuel islands, or on the highways.

For several years my job has had me all over the western and mid-western U.S. with a 34' 5th wheel with a 10' utility trailer behind it and I have parked in many a truck stop with no problems. As mentioned above I take a spot by a curb away from the building when possible and park a closer to the truckers rather than steering wheel holders, as I don' want my stuff hit either. As with everything else a little respect goes a long way.

Think most drivers would be ok with your idea its a free world if your allowed to park there then why not? The only one's i'd assume might not like it, is if your taking up a spot at 2 am in the morning when some poor drivers 11 hours are up and he needs a spot to park.

I spend several night a week at truckstops with trailers. As a general rule I look for that spot that would be harder for a TT to get into but easier for my little load . Most big truck drivers seem to be ok with it . You can't please everybody all the time but consideration and respect goes a long way

The rvs gotta park somewhere too. Ive heard guys go off about it on the cb but i havent seen any signs saying cmv only. Now if we could just get the guys that are bobtail to quit taking up a whole spot, that would be something.
