My company software is routing me away from this route.
I like the idea of avoiding San Antonio..worried about making a wrong turn into Mexico?
Any advice appreciated.

From Houston to Laredo , I usually go I-10 west to 35 south. Don't know if your serious about Mexico.
drvrtech77 and DustyRoad Thank this. -
Husband has been on the 59 before, will be a few more towns and turns to follow the road vs interstate running. Night time driving wouldn't have as much traffic to worry about if going 59 vs daytime.
Taking 59 is 311 miles vs 69 with 350 miles, time on google for both is about 5 hrs, but I would add at least an hour to this for driving time, and any other time, like for stopping for a break, etc. Plus at least an hour early to where you are going.
There is a Flying J on 59/ where it crosses over I-37 exit 56. About 200 mi away.

It is the only branded station till you get to Laredo once you leave Houston area.blairandgretchen, americanmadetrucker, Steel Dragon and 1 other person Thank this. -
It actually takes longer to drive to Laredo going route 59....as there are so many towns that have reduced speeds and traffic controlled access. However if you don't need to rush, the scenic route can be nice.

Once you are in the Laredo, area, there is a Pilot, Fly J, TA, and a Blue Beacon on I-35 exit 12.
You might want to study the map on google. There is Bob Bullock Loop, Mines Road. I-35, 83, 359, 20 and 59 are the main roads to worry with usually, according to where you are going. Remember to watch turning on roads going west if in doubt. -

Nafta Blvd, Killam Industrial Blvd, Andy Ramos Rd are just a few of the places where things are at.

Nice T/A,Ganado Tx,about 4 hours from Laredo.
Route is shorter, but not much traffic at night, might have to try it during the day.
Nice to travel the scenic route, avoiding a major city.
Couple scale houses,all closed.
The all day ride in and out of texas,is not always fun.
I definately like this little short cut.
Thanks for the responses.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
