joseph1135 said: ↑They are! BUT!!! Talk to some of those Heartland drivers. Ask them if they're getting the miles. The answer is a resounding NO. We had a Heartland guy here who even admitted that they weren't the kind of company you can actually run some miles at. Every Gordon driver I've talked to said since the big raise (GTI is owned by Heartland) have said the miles have dropped. The only way to make money is to be able to do the job: DRIVE. Without the miles, $1.00 for a company driver means absolutely nothing. And that's the problem with .50 a mile. Unless you're getting the miles, you're not making money. And every company is screaming about their pay raises, and didn't address the actual issue: letting drivers drive to make a living.Click to expand...
Just seems better to go with high pay and lower miles than the reverse.DDlighttruck and rubberducky68 Thank this. -
Those that are advertising "up to" 50 CPM are probably engaging in classic deceptive advertising technique. Lots of ways they can make this claim in an ad but typically that are sliding scale operations where it peaks out at 50 cents, but the bulk of the work their won't get you anywhere near that 50 cents, and if you do, you'll probably be hard-pressed to run more then a 1,000 miles/week at that rate.
Or, much of the 50 cents is assuming a well-experienced driver coming in at a decent outfit, and perhaps 8 more cents in various bonuses and accessorial pays, and could still be referring to the highest per-mile rate on a sliding scale. So, all I'm saying is, look at the "fine print" and realize trucking companies are a very shady lot in terms of trying to attract new OR experienced drivers, and their advertising scams. Either requires a different approach.DDlighttruck and Thediamond13 Thank this. -
We start all new drivers at 0.50CPM and only require 6 months experience.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
dogtrucker said: ↑Yeah ...welllll, it's all a trade off isn't it? I don't want to drive 3000 miles/week - that's a lot of f'n work! Once the weekly pay is in the reasonable zone, it's more about home time for most but how we use our down-time is important to quality of life as well. I got 11 on/ 3 off and drive 2000-2400/week. Seems OK. Thing is, I like having 20 hour waits for loads and 8 hours at WalMart; I'm out anyway so, I should use that down-time to do something productive like studying or practicing a musical instrument or getting some exercise.

I worked for Crete. The pay rate is what they advertise. If your pay rate is $.48, that's what you get. Other pay will be in addition. I think Cretes advertising on this point is not deceptive, like some others.
If you wanna be home every week, they pay 2 or 3 cents less. For the highest pay rate, they require minimum 21 days on the road.xlsdraw Thanks this. -
