Got my first chance at driving a twin stick transmission today. It was a 4x4 in a 1973 Kenworth water truck. I actually picked it up fairly quick and didn't scratch gears too much.

Really fun to try, that's for sure! Do any of you guys miss driving those full time? Anyone prefer them to the transmissions of today? Or is it just America's shifting past time?

I learned on a 4X4... I'd sooner have one than my 15 speed... just to impress the girls!

i found floating them to be much easier than on a regular 10 speed. especially on the brownie box. the main box was the only one I ground the gears in

Believe it or not the Navy Seabees had 5X4's in their road tractors all the way up into the 90's. Sure you might find someone with a 13 speed but I liked those twin sticks. I could get up over the grades faster and I was always alert. I thought they were fun. Of course I wouldn't want them and any truck i drove outside of the military service or OTR but they were still aloy of fun.

    Whats up Darren ??

I miss being the only one who could shift a twin stick, it was job security when I was with that company many years ago..
