I've never bought retreads before but for how much new tires are anymore i thinking about retreads i run 445/50/22.5 super singles on my drives and am looking at getting michilon xdn2 retreads just wondering if retreads are worth the cheaper price

Easy answer yes but you'll get a bunch of "I'll never run caps" from guys that don't know how to take care of their tires. IMO it's money in the bank. Michelin caps are the way to go.

For half the price of virgin (at least in my case) it's a no brainer. You're just throwing money away by not capping. Like he says if you maintain your tires staying on top of air pressure with a quality cap you shouldn't have any problems. I've even got a capped tire on my trailer that's had a section repair about half worn out and no problems. On the other hand if you abused your casings curbing tires all the time and running underinflated or you're buying unknown casings you're taking a risk. I'll take a chance on an unknown casing on my trailer if need be but not the tractor.

If you are getting a recap CK. inside tire for patches if any are seen you know the tire has been run flat some time in its life, tell tire dealer you will only buy caps with no patches or no deal.

Up until about 5 years ago I had never purchased a recap. I run the xone singles on my trailer and when they started doing the michelin recaps around here they just about gave me a set to try on my trailer. I ran that set for 2 years without an issue. I have had a couple bad ones over the years...where the tread separates and comes off casing but I have never blown a tire. For the most part have had very good luck with them and would recommend them. The Michelin xone caps are about 500 dollars in this area.
