Hey guys and gals. This is my first post; however, I've been lurking for some time now. My question is regarding my [soon to be] configuration, i.e. wire gauge, fuse size, and anything else you all may have to offer.

My radio is a Galaxy DX-88HL and I have the 75 final mod in it. I just purchased it, and before I received it the tech installed the final set, tuned and aligned it. Low-side it DKs 2.75W and swings 70W. High-side it DKs 15W and swings 70W. It is my understanding that although my high-side may still be underdriving the 4x2879s, it is still viable to run it with a 15W DK [as Fatboy recommends a 40W DK and a low 100ish swing [don't remember the exact number]. I am fine with that as of now, as I'd rather underdrive than overdrive; however, I don't want to underdrive it to the point that it will present problems. With that said, would you all recommend that I have the high-side DK increased? As of now the modulation has had nothing clipped [and I do not wish to do that] or tampered with per se according to my tech. He recommended that if I wished to talk SSB and with the way the radio is currently tuned it is cleaner than if he tampered with the audio. Wouldn't want to splatter and sound like poop (will be running SSB barefoot, if ever).

With all of that in mind I will be running a 102" steel whip with a 6" stainless spring. My vehicle has a factory 117 amp alternator and a single battery (700CCA / 875CA). What gauge of power cable is recommended for my current configuration as well as inline fuse size?

I appreciate any suggestions you all may have with my set up. I've learned a lot of useful information on this forum. As a kid I used to "tune" radios with a Dosy and a screw driver, but come to find out I knew nothing of aligning and proper scoping. Seems like I may get into that, but I digress.

    Thanks in advance.

this is the amp i was asking you about on the phone. Fatboy doesn't use model numbers per say, but here are the specs on the amp in the picture.

    - Led Power Indicator LIght
    - On/Off Switch
    - 12-16 Volts
    - Class C: Works perfect on FM, AM, and CW
    - Continuous Amp Draw of 25
    - Maximum Amp Draw of 70

Yes, that's the one. It was sent out today and Fatboy said I will have it on the 19th. Since it's a max 70 amp draw do you think I should go with an 80 amp fuse? Or do they have a 75?

Just off the top of my head I was thinking #4 wire but I'm hoping to get some confirmation / correction.

Also, I don't use the A/C in the Jeep and given that it's a 117 amp alternator I'm hoping that will suffice, but I'm thinking that I may need to upgrade that battery though. Will wait a bit for some input.

i would look in to getting a wiring kit for a car stereo amp. this cord pictured is 4 gauge stranded with a 60 amp fuse. you would probably need an 75 amp fuse for max output.

Yeah, I will probably buy my wiring locally once I figure the size. I'm sure it will be either #4 or #2. Hopefully there will be a 75A fuse, but if not, given the info you posted I will go with 80A, unless I hear otherwise.

Next feat will be mounting the amp in an inconspicuous, yet breathable location. I'm kind of limited on the Jeep Cherokee, but I believe I have a tool compartment in the rear. If so I may attempt to mount it inside there and make a vent cutout.
