Last december local KW did in frame platinum kit on on my 99 T2000 with 3406E due to dropped liner. Truck had 978k miles at time of overhaul. Never hsd any oil leaks. 20k miles after in frame it started leaking oil behind fan hub. I lchecked front valve cover gasket and its good. From the top i cant see where is leaking from. Did anyone had this leak before. Its strange that started leaking right after overhaul. Btw front cover gasket wasnt replaced at overhaul, just cam cover gasket or rtv silicone they used

I would check the gaskets again and make sure it’s not any of them. If they are good then I don’t know what it could be.

Silicone is a good way to build leaks into a Cat. Ask them where they put it and look there.

Probably because they didn’t bother resealing it when they did the engine. The gaskets and seals for that are in the set that comes with a platinum kit.

Oil can leak through the 4 bolts that hold the fan hub adjuster bracket thing to the block. At least that is what some say. Mine leaks their too. I pulled the bolts out, lathered with silicone and installed again. Definitely helped
Oil leaks happen. Re sealing the front cover is a pretty big job.

I know with platinum kit all gaskets comes too but they said it was not in overhaul to reseal it. Fricking Kw. But i was watching when they were pulling head off with overhead crane. It was going sideways. I think it was stuck on front or rear dont remember. So if was stuck up front maybe they mess up something with accessory drive. Is there any way they may pushed accessory drive cover forward when they pulling head ???. Maybe there is some gasked behind accessory drive in front of block ???

It could be leaking at front of head out from between head and block. That can take patience to see. or the bottom 2 studs that hold fan on. The head won’t budge if the cam spacer is not loose from the head. If they got violent enough I would worry about cracking the front cover. There is a plate between front cover and block sometimes it will leak after the bolts are disturbed. Also keep in mind the engine had 900k on it.....doesn’t have to be someone’s doing. It could just be time, especially being disturbed. There was no way around that some times that’s the price you pay.

Well the book hours you paid on that job include resealing the gear train cover. I’d start there with whoever did the work. Does your invoice show where you were discounted the hours and parts for that part of the job? Or did you pay for labour and parts you didn’t get?
