as the thread title might indicate, I am attempting to replace an oil Dipstick TUBE on my 3406e cat engine, beyond the obvious pain in discovering the tube snapped, (see picture, old broken bit next to shiney new one)

beyond that (and price of course *grumble grumble 90 bucks, 1.87 extra for the $#%^ing rubber oring), I can install it quite easily (I think) PROVIDED that I can remove the old bit, I removed the bolt, and cant get the old tube to budge, put a bar on the bracket and hit it with a hammer, it didnt come even the slightest bit out of the socket
do I need to remove the oil pan to get this thing out? the new tube (see picture, even put an arrow on it) has a hole in the part that sits in the pan, is that to hold some kind of retaining pin?

The hole is so it can breath. Without it you won't get a proper reading. I usually pull the pan and knock it out from the bottom

i gathered it would be something stupidly easy to do that would require a way more laborious process (given the weather/not having a full size drain pan, im gonna be pretty chilly while i drain it 2 gallons at a go)
