Soak with PB for several days before starting. Have a torch handy, and if something feels like it's gonna break, heat it. Anti seize on stud threads in head.

MLC Adventures has obviously fought with Cat exhaust studs before. High temp anti-seize on the studs will save a lot of grief. You WILL be back in there. It’s a Cat thing. When you go to fish a broken one out with an extractor you’re going to appreciate that never-seize, and the unbroken ones will usually come out with the nut.

    Shawn2130 and tj379 Thank this.

Get an air hammer and a box end wrench and a welding glove. Put the box end wrench on the nut. Use the welding glove on that hand (self explanatory but you never know) put the air hammer on end of stud slow steady pressure increasing as you go while vibrating the piss out of. I have seen the eat over half in two from years of pressure and time and still come out.

The goal is to get the stud out of the head not the nut off the stud. Use the nut to bring stud spacer and all out.

I forgot what an engine looks like without 600 lbs of emission junk hanging off the side.
