I am restoring a 1973 Pete 359. It has a 3406a under the hood. I was wondering can I convert it to a 3406b? If so what do I need to change?

Let me also add that it’s a pc engine with glow plugs and not DI. By swapping cylinder heads can I convert it to DI and get rid of the glow plugs?

The pump will not bolt to an early A block, you will need to swap complete engines.

I was afraid of that. Can I replace the cylinder head and get away from the glow plugs and go to direct injection?

This statement is coming from a purest that likes things to be Original... and your post said ..Restoring so JMO but trying to convert a A model to a B model is not a restoration that being said ..
Then why not save yourself time & grief.. just swap it out for a B model in fact if I did it I would go the extra step and get a ATA B model.. but I would also make sure that my air charge rad. had room to fit in there and not look like some abortion that was done under a shade tree in the Sunny valley trailer park by Billy Bob with a torch and 30 pack of Natty light.. again this is JMO.. Its your truck

Yes, you would need to find a later DI head from an A model, they are not the same as the B.

Oxbow, spsauerland and Roger McG Thank this.

Thanks everyone for all the input. The motor still runs strong so I’ll probably hold on on an engine swap. I will start looking for a later DI head for th a model

    A JWAC B would be the best swap. I have a transplanted 400HP jwac B in my 82 W900.

I looked into converting my PCTA to DITA. Spent a bit of time browsing SIS and picking other member's brains. For the trouble it'd be I just dropped 6 new PC cylinder kits in it and left it alone.

    Isafarmboy and spsauerland Thank this.

I’ve seen several people mention SIS. What is it?
