Looking at buying the 3000 watt cobra. Any suggestions or experience with power inverters would be appreciated. Also, will double o gauge wire be sufficient for 3000 watts?

There are charts online for gauge depending on the length and wattage.I have had a Harbor Freight 2000:3000 watt inverter for a year now and no issues. They now have one that’s pure sine wave for $299.

Ok thanks. Did you do the inline fuse ? Or straight to the battery? Also, did you do multiple leads or just one?

Put a fuse on the hot lead at the battery. I have a 3000 watt and used 4/0 gauge leads. Probably could have used 3/0. Would have been a bit easier to work with.

    Here's what I bought:

4/0 AWG Gauge Red + Black Pure Copper Battery Inverter Cables Solar, RV, Car, Boat 4 feet 5/16 in Lugs

I had to drill the lug for the negative lead so it would fit the battery terminal. The hot lead went to the fuse:

Blue Sea Systems MRBF Surface and Terminal Mount Fuse Blocks

Just one of each. A 4/0 cable is as big as the lead from your battery to your starter. It'll do.

With cobras keep in mind if you put a heavy load on them such as a microwave they get VERY hot even compared to other inverters i have used, make sure where ever you mount it has at least 6 inches of clear space behind and infront of the unit. Also dont mount it near the hot air vent on a bunk heater. Ive had them actully melt trim and in one case a pair of boots just from how hot the exhaust got when under heavy load for a while.

Yea I’ve been reading up on it all day, the cobra is consistently NOT in the top 10. The Giandel is pretty well liked by almost all reviewers, they’re just a bit more expensive. You get what you pay for though. Also from what I can tell 3000 watt inverter is overkill in the newer trucks that already have a fridge. So I’m rethinking my purchase now, probably going to get the best 2000 watt inverter out there. Do you have any in mind or is the Giandel a good route?

Probably not a bad idea. Mine is an AIMS 3000 watt and it is so big my seat touches it when I slide it all the way back. Also, some of them have a voltage meter. Mine doesn't and I wish it did. I did buy the remote on/off switch and mounted it in the sleeper. I would do that again.

Just make sure whatever you buy it is a pure sine wave inverter. The cheaper ones will burn out your electronic toys over time.
