How do these differences in wheel base stack up? Sure, the longer wheel base has a better ride, it turns worse. But, in the real world how does it compare to making a right hand turn, or backing in at a tiny Pilot?
My concern is not being able to back into certain parking spots because of the added wheel base. With a 234 inch, at some of these truck stops, specifically Pilots for example, it looks like they were made for a 48' trailer. Even with a shorter wheel base in a Columbia style condo sleeper, you have to be a magician to get it in there.
I'm not sure what the weight difference is either, that extra three feet of frame rails doesn't help. Just curious what your thoughts and opinions are. Thank you.
265 vs 234 wheel base

If you can drive you will have no issues. Just look at the guys project 350.and 351. Those were northeast trucks used everyday. Now , it's 331 instead of 51. The more you practice the easier it will be especially if you practice on trucks with longer wheelbases. The longer frame helps make the truck look cooler.

Significant difference will be noticed and the tighter the area, the more you'll notice how much that 30 inches makes a HUGE difference. The ride difference will be negligible compared to the difficulty in maneuvering tight spaces and turns that will certainly be there. Plus the longer wheel base may hurt trade in value.

Not to mention the amount of air drag with greater distance between cab and trailer, and yes the maneuvering would be a huge pita.

First off, what are you pulling? Why do you want the longer. Longer just for looks is pretty stupid if you care about performance. 30 inch isn't gonna change rid performance much. Now if you want longer so you have more room for a headache rack in flatbed, or something like that, then go with the longer. You can always make it fit....but why add the hassle if you dont need the longer.
alds Thanks this. -
Yes there will be a noticeable difference in tighter spots. This is why you don't see many gas haulers running longer wheelbase trucks. With that being said, 265" would not be considered excessive for most general freight IMO. Wouldn't want to go much longer though.

Drove 300 in WB and my last was a 379 w/ 265. Makes a a big difference in ride. Joints on any Eisenhour contrete highway are 240 inches and 239 fits between the concrete joints giving a jerk every time. 265 has time to get on the next slab and it won't make any difference backing in or gettin in a truck stop. Make sure you're under 65 ft 1".

265 wheel base wouldn't be a problem iv drove 300 in wheel base trucks and that long can be a bit of a pain but always managed to get the truck in anywhere i needed to. 265 isn't too long in my opinion 280+ is where it can start being a issue in tight spaces. and really 280 is plenty manageable.

265 is standard for a W900, a Classic, or Coronado. I'm looking at trucks and see a few in a good price range, but I've never driven something like that so it makes me ask. AS far as the gap, there is no bigger gap from what I can tell. Application is hauling 53' van trailers OTR.

for starters, the 234" wb will most likely be a set back front axle and the 265" wb will be a set forward front axle. set forward equates a better ride automatically and without fail.to me,the only nice looking sba is a T800 KW.
you can get longer wheel based sba but why?
