Stevens seem like a pretty good company from what I've read. FFE has a terminal in Winter Haven & Miami.
As to the women aspect; several of my trucking friends and I got our wives on blossoms site. We all got Chinese & it's worked out well. I've been married to mine for 11 years & the other guys married for 6-20 years, with no problems. Mine rode with me and loved it, until she became pregnant, then stayed home. -
You aren't too informed, but that's OK, live and learn. I'm a podunk hillbilly from TN with a hottie wife 30 years younger than me. Several of my truck driver hillbilly friends also have hottie wives around 20 years younger than they are. You won't find these women in a beer joint. I will add, all of us hillbilly truckers with the young hottie wives have been married a minimum of 6 years to 20 years. Think globally! The one I married was a stockbroker in Beijing with an MBA when I met her.rockyroad74 Thanks this. -
Duckdiver pretty much spelled out our situation. I'm 23, and I've been single most of my career since I got my CDL 2.5 years ago. I'd never had a problem getting a girlfriend before, and they were always way out of my league. Women won't touch a young trucker for a cache of reasons. I've gotten a few girls I knew before I started driving to give me a shot, but they all gave up in under a month, which I really didn't take well, since all my other relationships lasted several years.
You can try online dating, but I can only get women to humor the prospect of such a relationship until they get some sense of what OTR work entails. I don't do bars nor clubbing, or superficial relationships, and I've never been a part of "hook-up culture", so I'm #### out of luck, it seems. I've had old timers show me how to lather up waitresses at diners, but I feel like that's more harassment than any girl I'd be interested in deserves in their line of work (nothing wrong with putting a smile on their face with flattery, but I was taught to try and set the hook if I get a nibble, which I won't do). Not to mention, I grew up in California, so I've always got the looming worry of a lawsuit against me when considering making an advance.
It isn't like it used to be, if the old trucker tales are even halfway true. We seem to be stuck in a dichotomy of either chasing girls, or investing in a career. I went O/O, so I've resigned myself to being alone (or married to the truck, depending on how much of a sociopath I'm willing to seem like to non-truckers). Most guys our age can't handle that, so if you can stick it out, good on you. Watching everyone you know get married, and have kids, and start families can wear on you, but only if you let it. Most of them will either be divorced or trapped in dead marriages within 10 years, so I suppose there is a bright side, if you're into schadenfreude. Keep in mind in those same 10 years, you can have a nice IRA account, own a decent piece of land, have no debt, a solid career, and no alimony or child support, which will have you the envy of most men in their late 30's. -
How many guys living at home with mommy have girls? I think your doing better than you were. You should do a year OTR and later apply for a local job like in LTL or fuel tankers. You'll see home everyday, get 2 days off every week and make around $50K, more than most college grads will if they even find employment. If the women still would rather date the bum living at home, then start online dating/Skyping women in Russia, Phillipines, Thailand. Most of the world's women respect hardworking American men. Too bad so many American women think they are too good for a hard worker.

Some very good advice given here.
It is a fact that while most Western women like to spend the money ,they are very unforgiven about the the time and effort a driver has to invest to earn that money.
(too the ladies on this forum:i do say most, not all. There some Western women who can respect the efforts off their driver husbands, they are just not easy to find)
It is also a fact that in the rest off the world they view that time ,that the driver is away from home, very differently.
Mainly because there it is common to be away from home for a very long time for even a simple job in a factory.
(as an example,i know off a Philipino woman seeing her 2y old son only 3 weeks a year, she works in an electronics factory)
If you, like me,can appreciate the beauty off Asian women................that might be a path worth looking at.
And offcourse..............there's luck involved.
The luck off meeting the right person at the right time.Last edited: Dec 30, 2012

Rockyroad makes a valid point do you for a while get your business in order then you can apply for a locale gig in 6 months to a year if you need a woman that bad stop at every truck stop you can and pick up a lot lizard lol you'll be great after that.

Also, not to go off on a tangent here, you all have brought up the topic of Asian women. Funny that topic comes up, having that I'm a mixed african american, I find that Asian women do not seek interest in my type at all. However my white friends they'll stick to them like a magnet without my friends even saying a word. There's just something about Asian women that they love white guys. Not being racial, just an observation.
But still, very good advise guys! I like the idea of seeing my friends get married and kids and all but in 10 years that will not even exist! We all see marriages fall apart faster than a regular relationship lasts. I just don't understand why women would commit to a man but when he has to go away to make some cash for her, she'll go "see" another man just to fill her loneliness. Sometimes I question the whole idea under a relationship. You can't keep her around if you're not making enough money and if you make enough money but travel then she wants to cheat on you. Now, I know one separate exception to the rule here. I have a friend who she has 4 kids from different men! She met this trucker and they decided to have one of their own to make 5 and she stays committed to him. I can see why though, I would never be with a woman with that many kids that don't belong to me! That's just my honest opinion.
I don't see this as being a life long career for me. I think I'll stick around for maybe 5-6 years tops. I'm a business frame of mind type of guy. I want to open up small businesses and get the flow of money moving so if I decide I don't want to travel so much, I have something to fall back on.
