Federal highway use tax,every commercial vehicle have to pay this tax once a year.its $550 for class 8 trucks u can pay it at your local irs office or do it online.

Yes, separate from IFTA, IFTA is Fuel Tax agreement 2290 is Heavy Use Tax, Actually it depends on your registered weight, if you are at 54,000 or less you are exempt from 2290, over that and you need to pay it.

Nope, we are now fully a 54,000 and under carrier, (got rid of all of my tandem trucks and spread trailers) all of our equipment falls UNDER 54,000 no 2290 required.

Proof of Payment of Federal Heavy Vehicle Use Tax
There is a requirement that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) form 2290-Schedule 1, "Schedule of Heavy Highway Vehicles" must be submitted for all power units with a registered weight over 54,000 lbs GVW. Return the most current stamped copy of Schedule 1 (applicable year).
