    Hello everyone

I need some advice from someone that has experience with both engines if it is possible. Right now I drive a 2012 volvo 780 with d13 and I really like it. Ive been driving for 2 years and so far its the best truck I ever drove. Very comfortable. I haul very light weight. I usually get loaded one way and I always drive empty back to Dallas. So far I had very minor problems with my Volvo. Currently I have 613k miles on it and my total spending on the truck at the mechanic is $7k for two years running 200k. Right now I got approved to buy a new volvo 2019 and I have two choices: volvo 860 d13 with ishift ( has the working station which I really like ) or volvo 760 x15 with 13 speed trans manual. D13 with ishift is at $168k and x15 with 13 speed is at $159k ( and they offered me to change the loer bed to the one that looks like the hospital bed, $1650 upgrade) I am usually every night home, but summer time I haul to Denver from Dallas once or twice a week. My current volvo its straight 10 speed and 500 hp. It doesnt feel like 500 hp for some reason . My day cab volvo 2009 with ultrashift ixs engine 425 hp feels much more powerful. My question now and sorry for writing a long thread.

Which one should I buy? And why?

Ps. I am leaning towards the d13 bc I had a good experience with it ( and it has the working station and a little bit of more extra upgraded options ) but I like the 13 speed manual on the other truck bc I think it would pull better than ishift.
    860 d13 it has 500hp and and ratio 3.08 and 760 x15 has 505hp and 3.25.

Every response is very appreciate it!

I drive a 2012 670 10 speed and if I had your options I would go with the D13 Ishift. The autos have improved dramatically over the years and it should give you better mileage. Also, the 860 looks to be one of the most comfortable packages currently available. By chance are you hauling mail? I see a lot of 780s pulling mail.

If it is Volvo’s xe package on the d-13 100% go that route. Also the d-13 your driving now isn’t 500hp, 475hp would be max from the factory.

But the d-13 with the i-shift and the xe package is a great set up. Imo if i were to buy a volvo, that is how i’d spec it out.

I currently own a Volvo d-13 and am lucky I have a Volvo dealer close by that I have dealt with for years and they take care of me immediately, if that wasn’t the case I would get the x15 just because anyone can work on it, u can call Cummins, Pete, kw, Volvo, international, etc stealerships to see who could get you in the fastest, with the Volvo you are limited to going to Volvo and the Dallas and Fort Worth Volvo are always backed out every time I ever tried to use them..

I like the little d-13 and really like the I-shift, the ishift is the best auto on the market.. I never bought into the autos after driving some including the newish dt12, after driving a ishify I hate to admit it but I love it, wish my current ride was a i shift.. Volvo thinks awful highly of the new 640, 740 and 860, price went up substantially over their previous model..

I had a 13 d13 and put almost 800k on it. Zero issues. Would not touch any emission truck other than that. I have a glider kit now and miss the quiet and comfortable of the big Volvo.
Best truck on the road as far as driver comfort.

My company just reported the three X-15's they bought last winter were the cheapest in terms of maintenance this year (this is including company owned, maintained and rebuilt CAT C-15's), and others are saying it's almost looking like they are as reliable and cheap to maintain as the N14.

I've heard that the wait for service at a Volvo dealer is usually around two to three weeks.

Never had a Volvo or a D-13. But I do have 2 X15’s. One with a 13 sp manual and one with the endurant 12 sp auto.

The 13 sp has around 120k on it and nothing but oil change and filters so far. Zero problems.

The endurant auto has around 10k on it but I can already tell the mpg is going to be better and the driver already loves it. He’s an older school manual all his life type too.

I’m a 100% Cummins man but if they won’t let you get that endurant 12 speed then that would be a bummer. That says a lot too because I’m one of those people who pledged to never own an auto. I’m seeing 7.3 mpg vs 6.8 mpg though. Heavy both ways, 30% on the idle. 70 mph.

    Hope this helps some.

Thank you for your answers brothers. I chose the x15 just for the reason that volvo dealers are always packed and the waiting time its crazy. I have my own mechanic that I go and do my truck services there here in Dallas so for that reason the 780 that I drive myself with the d13 I am passing that truck to my driver and he only drives Dallas Houston every day. Tomorrow I am picking up the new 760 and I hope everything will be fine and hopefully not a lot of problems with it in the future. I dont know what kind of fuel mpg am i going to get with this, but I am hoping at least 7.5 .

The one that I have right now it is a 500 hp. I mean that’s what it is written on the door. It doesnt pull like 500 hp. Let me give you an example: I dont know if you drove from denver to dallas, but in Trinidad Co. coming empty up the hill on I25 towards Raton NM. On the last teo miles before you get to the top, I have to change gear from 10 to the 9th.

I did the same route before with my Freightliner with a refer trailer hauling 28k lb and never dropped a gear. I did I-80 in Pennsylvania with my pro star with isx 435 hp doing 70-75 up those hills with over 42k lbs.

Dont get me wrong, I love my volvo as it has been a perfect truck. Quite, smooth and no problems. What it is very weird about my current truck, when I haul sometimes salt 44lbs. It pulls very good! Go figure!!!

I know someone who just bought 2 KW 880s and put them on the road in March. Both are x15 economy versions with Eaton 18 speed auto shifts. One has been in the shop a bit with shifting problems and I believe an egr cooler. Both are averaging right around 6 mpg.
