I’m in the process of buying a 2016 389 pete. It has the isx15 550 hp with 350k on it.
are there any known problems with the engine for this year I should be concerned about or look into ? I know these engines had there failures a few years before this one. Not sure if they were fixed before 2016 model. Any advice will be highly appreciated!
Gonna be my first truck getting into the O/O side of trucking I don’t want to make a bad move and go bankrupt

Most all the issues were fixed with 2016 model.
They have an extra piston ring that eliminated the carbon packing issue.
The fuel pump issue was ceramic plungers. Less than $200 to change to metal at Cummins if you did it before there was a problem.
2016 has metal plungers.
Idling is the number 1 killer of these engines. Think about getting an APU.Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
I just sold my 2012 ISX with 750K miles on it, and it was all original. Even the alternator.
Changed oil and filters every 20K. Delvac CK-4 Mineral.
Had the aftertreatment over hauled by Cummins at 625K miles.Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
To be specific on all possibilities would be alot so in short my personal experience with 2250/2350 would lead me to tell you to hope for the best and be prepared for the worst. I wish there was a better answer. Lots of information out there about known common issues as there are many I would not purchase without doing ALOT of research from various sources and familiarize yourself as completely as possible to know what to look for and what specific questions to ask.
