The first time it happened two days ago, I called out road service and they replaced my starter.

Now it happened again. To add insult to injury, this happened at an outgate at a large DHL warehouse. I was able to get it going by doing some incredibly stupid things with the Positive terminal of the starter, the batteries, and a jumper cable - but this is clearly not a sustainable solution.

It's not the clutch pedal switch. I immediately bypassed that stupid thing. So.. starter is brand new and fine, truck runs fine once it starts so I don't think it's the control module... what else should I look for next? What spare parts should I buy for when it happens again?

( other than a higher amp jumper cable that doesn't literally start smoking when you you dumb emergency stuff with it. I already got that covered)

I recommend you do some voltage drop testing between your batteries and starter on both the positive and negative cables. Could be failing cable or corrosion that is building up and creating high resistance. Also, measure the voltage at the magnetic switch for your start circuit. For the voltage drop on your negative and positive circuits your looking for less that 0.5 volts drop or less. At the shop we have fancy electronic tester with built in load and then the 20 foot long small leads to get to other end of circuit your testing. You could replicate with a relatively cheap Harbor freight carbon pile battery tester and a Digital Volt Ohm Meter (DVOM) with some long lead extensions. Technology & Maintenance Council's Recommended Maintenance Practices Manual edition 2004-2005 on RP129 has about eight different illustrated tests you can do to troubleshoot starting system.

If after following this great advice you may find that you have the dreaded "CPC failure" Have to check for any related codes with DDDL. I have a bad feeling for you on this one............after you check on CPC availability.

Luckily, it was just a bad connection from battery to starter cable

Would have been an even better news if I realized this before dropping a grand on an unnecessary starter... But yeah, at least it wasn't the computer
