The new F450 (2015) that is was just unveiled in Texas.
This makes me very happy as now a great truck with the most weight capacity ever along with a great engine will finally be on the market. This is great news for Hot Shot companies.

I almost just bought an F450 and am so glad I hadn't as I just heard this news today.
Unfortunately I will have to wait a year to get the new model.
I love ford trucks but the engine from 2003 to 2007 were so troublesome and 2008 to 2009 better but you never knew if was going to let go. We still have a 2008 which has worked hard without much issue for us every day but I think I was just blessed to get a good one. (Typically I end up with the lemon) but lately Iv been lucky.
The 2010 6.7 engine has brought Ford back on track with reliability and possibly ahead of the competition but I was so bummed when they down rated the F450 practically to the F350. I felt like the same guy that had the final decision on using the NAVSTAR engine from 2003 to 2009 was back in charge again! :banghead:

Anyone with a 6.7 Ford working as a Hot Shot I'd love to hear the pros and cons you have came across.

for the money you spend on a new f 450, why not buy a used class 8 with a nice sleeper MPG isnt much worse for a light load and the class 8 is alot more comfy to drive.

I'm not in the hotshot business but drive one on a daily basis as a commuter/personal travel vehicle... Its an early 2011, first run of the 6.7 (ECSB Lariat 4x4). It is just awesome, I've had the 7.3 and 6.0 from IH... even the 7.3 was unreliable compared to this thing. I get 21 highway (with me the wife, kid and 2 dogs and a bed full of luggage) 18.5 around town hammering the hell out of it with 3:31 gears. Its got about 89k on the clock, it had an o2 sensor replaced, a cracked radiator endcap, and vacuum pump gasket so far in repairs.

In my opinion for a first run that's not too bad. At 70k I added a tuner and pulled the DPF and piss tank and pump and EGR off. It helped the mileage some and woke her up a little, but to be honest its not necessary at all, it ran great without it but put me in the high 13's in the 1/4 on the local track. The 2015 will have an improved turbo which was troublesome on the C&C trucks, beefer piston/rod assemblies and improved fuel delivery. These are the only improvements I can see as even remotely necessary.

As far as travel goes I've been on a few longish trips with it and the comfort and ride travel wise is second to none. Went from NY to Boulder CO stopping for a 2hr nap in Nebraska cycling the heated/cooled seats made the drive much more comfortable on the back. I won't comment on towing as I've towed nothing more than a boat. I will say however that the cruise control and engine braking is COOL! It will down shift and adjust the turbo geometry applying plenty of engine and exhaust braking to slow you down going down hills. I set the cruise and go, the tow/haul mode simply performs these tasks a little more aggressively. So much so that occasionally I will tap the pedal if I have someone real close behind me and may not be paying attention.

We already have and run class 8 trucks, other than running an end dump I can send a hot shot to do 75% of the freight we get so Iv been developing a hot shot division to our company this year.

When over the road we sure miss the convenience of the sleeper though as you pointed out.

on the 2015 f-450. is it coming with the cummins engine? all i have heard about the dressed up 6.0 aka 6.7 is they keep blowing the top ends of the engine. I know quite a few techs that work at the dealers.

    Hi MrMatt,

No, the 2015 does not come with the cummins, nor is it a dressed up 6.0. It's probably best to stay clear of the techs and dealers you know of if that is the advice they give you.
I have not heard of much in the line of the Ford 6.7 giving major problems but more so the cummins 6.7. Everybody has had their struggles with becoming emissions compliant, cummins which I believe were one if the best engines on the market for any application up until the recent issues they now have due to meeting tough emissions standards. Ford did not have the same carbon credits built up as cummins did in 2004 or 2007 so they just went through this first as they were not
    quite as fuel efficient.
In a perfect world back then I would have preferred a ford truck and cummins engine.
Now it seems ford have an unbeatable combo and are pushing to perfect it.

i curently have a 6.0 powerstroke and ive had 32000 lbs on it and it had no problems pulling it. as long as u dont chip the 6.0 u wont have any problems from what ive herd. all the cummins ive driven or seen have nothing but problems. my dad use to have a 6.7 powerstroke and never had any problems with it. with my 6.0 i made a 1600 mile run with a 24ft gooseneck stock trailer hulling horses and i was getting around 26mpg running 70mph down the high way. i do have a after market k&n air system and its straight piped so that could of helped but im very pleased with the truck

I'm calling BS on pulling a loaded 24ft horse trailer at 70mph netting 26mpg. No way, not possible. I have a hard time believing guys who say they get 25mpg running empty diesel pickups not pulling trailers. Good would be 20-23mpg, empty no trailer more typical would be 17-20mpg. There is just no way you're at 20mpg+ pulling a loaded trailer like that, sorry.

Agreed. Nope not in a 6leaker empty or loaded. Stock regular cab 6.0 best I ever saw hand calculated was 17 averaged 14 empty. 6.7 a different story for the better.

i was getting 28 mpg with the trailer and 24 mpg with it loaded. so i just said in the middle as average. not trying to bs anyone thats just what i was getting. u can believe it or not. thats up to u. i know some people that have 6.0s that get in the 30s empty and high 20s pulling. but they have alot of work done to their trucks. as far as i know my truck is mostly stock unless the previous owner did work to it. all i know is it has a smaller turbo and a k&n air system on it. its a 6.0 2wd. thats all i know is done to the truck.
