Last year in late September I bought a 2013 International Prostar with the Maxxforce 13 in it. Truck is starting to have issues 6 months in. Bought it from Penske as premium condition and bought a three year 300,000 mile NTP warranty. Sitting at International dealership now broken down. Need advice on "IF" I can replace certain parts and items to keep it running perfectly at least for the rest of this 2 1/2 more years I have it leased to someone for.

I am new to semi trucks, knew nothing about this huge issue with these trucks and need help keeping this investment running. Bought it cash and my client hand picked the truck saying it looked good and worked for their needs. Any work arounds or fixes for their known issues? About 210,000 miles on it now. Any help is greatly appreciated and O am.losing sleep over this thing.(own a cascadia as well that's a night and day difference).

Are you referring to there EGR cooler or high pressure turboor high pressure fuel pump issues? Those are the weak points, used to be EGR valves as well but I think we got that fixed haven’t seen a broken shaft since probably 2014. I don’t know of anything myself to prevent any of these, are asking about a “delete” type of situation?
Only thing Maxxforce engines are good for is lightening the load on your wallet. I would get rid of it as soon as you possibly can.

Are they not honouring the warranty they sold you?

I have to keep the truck another 2 1/4 years to recoup my investment as I have it leased out on a contract to someone. My concern is reading (lack of personal trucking / mechanic knowledge keep in mind) a lot of issues about EGR, some form of wiring harness for a computer being loose, trucks overheating, airflow not working properly.

Using just simple logic I assume there is replacement parts or things we can replace on the truck to remove and replace the faulty equipment International put on. That is what I am digging for. I read online about an option to have a International dealership "diamond re-certify" these trucks with Maxxforce engines and then fix the known issue/s. Any feedback on there?

I bought a NTP 3 year 300,000 mile warranty on it covering some major components. My issue is wondering if this warranty would cover possible known faulty trucks and past 1 time of repair. For example, should it have major breakdowns or issues multiple times, does the warranty company keep paying out. Attached is a warranty and it's coverage I have on the truck. I have the engine, trans and after treatment one. Also, attached is the two claims that were just opened on truck.

I’ve never heard of anything about a loose connector on the ECM, overheating issues or airflow on that engine may have been on the first gen big bore (08-10 Maxx13) the biggest issues with those is what I stated above. The biggest preventative thing that you can do is make sure the driver keeps a really good eye on the coolant level. The main problem with those engines is they ran the EGR at higher temps than any other OEM to avoid using SCR. I’ve seen some of those diamond renewed trucks come through the shop, they seem like maybe there are better, but they also had recently been renewed, I’m not sure what all is done during that process

Read the terms and conditions at the bottom. There are repair caps of both dollar amounts and per component count too. So basically they will only cover one egr cooler or one DOC during the contract period, for example, and once you have hit $12,000 in aftertreatment repairs, they will cut you off.
