Ok, I know they aren't great. The price is so right I think I'm going to pull the trigger on 4 of them.
I would like to get a year out of them but 6 months will be good enough. I am keeping my garbage 871's and 2250 going so I can handle the doc/dpf part. I've read on here the egr valve is a pain in the ###. Is there any other things to watch for?
I plan on taking the doc/dpf off and having them cleaned before I put them into service. Is the doser a clean the face off deal like the Cummins or is it more involved?

    Dear friends -

I have decided to ram my head into a wall, however,

I cannot decide the material of said wall . . .

    What do you suggest?

No wall, just ram it against the Maxforce engine.

If you take it to a certain place and let them do a "tune" to it you will have a very reliable engine. If not your just asking for issues.

Since you wouldn’t be running them an extended period of time, maybe that would work. Don’t expect to get much at all when you trade them. There are considered worthless. I don’t mean that in a mean way but, in fact, they are worthless. They are mainly exported as no one in this country wants them. I would only buy them if they are “diamond renewed.” That program, supposedly, fixed many of the major issues. If you’re paying more than 22k a piece for them don’t do it. Again, you’re not going to get anything for them on trade. A Maxxforce is not a motor you want a long term commitment too. You said you’d probably only have them a year so you probably wouldn’t have too much to deal with, as long as they’re Diamond Renewed.

    bzinger and blairandgretchen Thank this.

Wow. I don’t didn’t realize these motors were such a piece of S”””” - I wonder how many have lost their rear on these trucks.

22k no way...I said the price is right. That 22k buys 3 of the 4. Now with that said I want to see if I can make them go that year and break even is around 7 weeks. I am not going to buy more 389's for these newbies I have. When they trash these prostars what will I be out?

    bzinger Thanks this.

Vander haags in council bluffs offered a friend of mine 5 grand for his running maxforce pro star ..( 2012 with 400k on it ).
The truck is fine but the engine is what kills them.
