I own a 2010 freightliner cascadia with a dd13 engine, for the past six months the truck has been sitting at the yard and I have just been turning it on once or twice a week and just driving it forward and backwards. Lately it’s been having problems turning on when cold so I have been using starting fluid but once it’s been turned on for 15-20 min I turn it off and turn it right back on and it doesn’t need starting fluid it turns on perfectly. So I was wondering why it doesn’t want to turn on without starting fluid after its been off for a few days? Is it just because it’s not been use on a regular basis or something else?

Loses pressure in system

You've not done that truck any favors by doing all that unnecessary starting up and shutting off.
AModelCat Thanks this. -

Problems turning on? What kinds of problems?
Slow crank speed?
Long crank times?
How cold is it outside?
Throw away that ether can before you wreck the engine.feldsforever and Brettj3876 Thank this. -

Check valve on fuel return at rear of head is leaking off and you lose prime.
-
Yeah ether is gonna make that worse if you keep using it. Wrecks the cylinder walls.

Starting fluid is bad idea! But you're loosing prime (fuel pressure) most likely a check valve. Is leaking by after sitting.. on pump below primer can take out and clean
