We seem to be having an injector problem. Driver says, no power and unit is "spluttering", just like when last injector went out.

    Cutout test

    no cutout 5.2 1000 rpms

    1 4.9
    5 5.4
    3 5.4
    6 5.5
    2 5.3
    4 5.3

another test at 1000 rpms (we forgot to note no cutout number)
    1 4.7
    5 5.4
    3 5.7
    6 5.7
    2 5.4
    4 5.6

    response times
    1 .73
    5 .78
    3 .79
    6 .78
    2 .83
    4 .78
I am posting for someone, personally don't understand much of this but would love to hear your thoughts.
    Appreciate it!

Reason for edit: trying to change spacing so numbers can be read.

What was the baseline for those tests? What you're looking for is a minimum 0.2 increase from the baseline on each cylinder. Run 3 tests and average them,1 test isn't enough. From those #'s, cylinder 1 looks a little weak, but with only 1 test at idle,1 at 1000 and no baselines, it's just a guess.

In simple terms, the baseline represents the total fuel going through the injectors, when you cut a cylinder, total fuel increases to push a dead cylinder, so the # goes up. If the number doesn't change, or changes very little, that cylinder is dead or isn't doing much.

A failed cylinder on a cutout test does not mean a bad injector, it could be an injector, but not always. Check the valve/injector adjustment first and check the cam and rockers while you're doing it. S60's intake valves like to tighten up, if they're too tight, it can cause that cylinder to fail a cutout test.

    mhyn Thanks this.

    Thanks Grape Ape!
The 1st cutout test had a baseline of 5.2 and on the 2nd test I forgot to note the baseline. The driver said the truck is acting just like it did when the #1 injector went out 3 weeks ago. "No power and spluttering." At that time, we had the #1 injector replaced and engine tuned up. Driver said it was running great. Until the injector failed again. (It seems) The mechanic who did the 1st injector said all the injectors are weak and should be replaced. Said they should be in the high 6s or 7s on a cutout test. Seems strange with the truck running so well.
    What do you think?
    Thanks for your thoughts!

There isn't a specific number for pass or fail, it depends on the baseline. If the baseline is 5.2, you look for at least 5.4 on for each cylinder. It is important to do more than 1 test, Detroit recommends 3 tests and average the numbers. If the engine does not control the fan, it need to be locked in, the air compressor should also be unloaded and not come on during the test. Any load change on the engine during a test will skew the numbers.

With a 5.2 baseline, cylinders 1, 2, and 4 are suspect, but changing injectors with only 1 test could be an expensive mistake. The next step I'd take is verifying that there is no air in the fuel return line. It may be just injector seals, possibly injector cups. It's very possible that the new injector is faulty, but I'd be checking everything before I just assumed that.

I'm wondering if your sputtering is TPS related. Any codes?
