Tell me what you know about this gal. Ups and downs. Truck I'm looking at has one hooked to a 18 speed. 438k miles.
Looks like a local heavy hauler to me. ( power / miles / age )
Tks...
2000 Cummins signature 600 engine.

From what I've heard it depends on who you talk too. My neighbor has one in his truck with a pittsburg power box on it and loves it (gives me #### about my 600 cat but I can still out pull him
) I've talked to others that say it's only worth what they'll give you in scrap. Sounds like just about every other motor on the face of the earth. From what my neighbor says he can squeeze almost 7 out of his, runs to CA with it pulling a reefer, with his t600. He likes it and says it also only cost him 18k to overhaul it and that was doing everything turbo, head, cylinder packs, whole 9 yards (there's less ######## in my trailer after 2 weeks without a washout I know another guy that owns one in a W900 he overhauled his and it was 24k out the door doing the same thing) Overall it's a 600 horse motor it's going to outpull 95% of the motors out there and you're going to burn a little extra fuel. They're going to be good for about 800-1,000,000 before a rebuild if theyre run right and maintained properly. That's the way it usually goes. It's going to be cheaper than something that's painted yellow, probably won't have the pulling power but you'll get better fuel mileage and beat the yellow motor flatland with ease. Hills are mainly where the red and blue/green/whatever color Detroit's painting them now struggle. That's what I can tell you when it comes to that motor. I'd take one if I had too. Ain't nothing like hearing the roar of 600 horses under that hood...believe me I know

Tks, it's a bit overkill for my operation but useable. 800 to 1m ( when properly maintained ) is dissapointing tho. I expected more. ( but I'm a Mack guy )
Gotcha on the yellow motor thing. Loved them when they were white and men were men but not today. Got one on the yard with 900k and needs an overhaul, another lost a cam and they have all needed injectors. When you say Cat you're saying Caddy.
Tks again...see if anybody else weighs in....379exhd Thanks this. -
Had a lot of friends in the 600 club up in PA in the early 2000's. All of them running the 565 and 600 ISX had to have major work, including engine replacement before hitting 400k. Good luck, but I wouldn't touch it.

Thks, FCG, I respect your opinion....... would you still say the same if the seller puts a 100k warranty on it ? ( drive line ) Or is it just a problem child from the get go?

ODR Thanks this.

No problem guys. The seller failed my background check. He's all over Ripoff Reports and a few other places so we'll let him steal from someone else. It's not like he has the only truck for sale.
Tks again... -
One of the things shops play on is your need to roll for financial reasons. They know most of us can't sit for weeks or even months or fight a protracted legal battle......One could instead look at buying a complete Cat reman exchange engine. Then let them squirm when this one fails.
Just a thought.....

I have a 565 signature in a '99 Pete. At overhead time it was discovered that it had some oddball cams in it that only came in the first 1000 engines. Sounds like there were some changes made after the first 1000 and I don't know exactly what they are or what it could mean at overhaul time. The engine pulls ok but has been failing oil samples at 5500-6000 miles due to soot. I haven't got to the bottom of that yet, but need to pull another sample here soon to see if it's getting better. The second sample was better than the first, so we decided to keep sampling and changing oil at 6000 miles. If it fails this next one it'll have to go in the shop again. I've only been driving the truck for just under 20000 miles and have put $18000 into it, not all engine related though. Jakes aren't near as good as the N-14 I was driving, mechanic claims they're set up correctly. Wish I had more time to get to the bottom of a few things to give a more scientific/factual evaluation, but as it stands, I would avoid, at least the early big hp isx engines until I knew more about them. I would probably go with a 6NZ Cat next, love the N14 but would like more hp than I see them in.
