I have, briefly. Two sticks 4 spots on the box. Somewhat simplfied from lo lo through to hi hi which we did not really get into in those days. One shift requires a arm through the wheel to hold her coming up or coming down.

As much as I liked and did ok on old iron, that is one transmission Im happy not to have been put on the spot in mountain country.

D.Tibbitt, Dino soar and BackwoodsGA Thank this.

I learned on a 5x4 in a kw than a few years later drove a Mack with what I would call a .4x5 because the main was the far stick and auxiliary was the inside stick!

    D.Tibbitt and BackwoodsGA Thank this.

    I drove a 1980 R model Mack with a 300 plus motor and a 6 speed twin stick.
You could select reverse and then rail through the gears in the main transmission backing up.
Good thing it was a 10 wheel dump truck.
Those kind of speeds in reverse could get out of hand quickly.

D.Tibbitt and MACK E-6 Thank this.

First in reverse on those was slower than a belly crawl. No better way to draw funny looks than to grab gears going backwards. :biggrin_25523:

The Jockey that had ours offered it to me for the work bringing in loaded trailers several times a day and I thought about it carefully. Decided that it was not for me. I had too much get up and go and be gone for a while to putter around a block or two all the time. It was a good offer he made but its not for me.

Im willing to bet the ranch almost 30 years on it's probably still yard jockeying.

    BackwoodsGA Thanks this.
