    Ok, so long story short.

I somehow talked my way into a heavy haul company as my first cdl job been there 6 months now. Really didn’t know what I was getting myself into just heard the pay and home almost every night.

I basically had to get my experience learning and pulling lowboys and smaller machinery like 230 excavators, front end loaders, etc.

I’m starting to feel like this is going to fast, in 6 months of driving I have hauled 15.5 tall, 16 wide, 90 something foot long and max I have been was 152k. As an example by month three of driving when I was still figuring #### out I hauled a komatsu 360pc with a big ### sheer on it.

Now they are asking me to go get my doubles and triples to start hauling 5 axle trailers with jeeps and stingers? These mfs are out of their minds right?

I’m just getting to the point of being confident with the “smaller” loads. Now they want me to start grabbing 50 ton cranes?

Can I do it? Probably, but should I do it? Just all feels to fast.

    Do it..
Ask about what you don't know.
    Take it slow and learn.
You'll soon be a well paid and compensated OD specialist and thanking the lucky stars you didn't get on with CR England

If you weren't a little nervous about hauling that stuff there would be something wrong with you.
Your boss obviously sees something in you and your job performance that he lies and trusts. He's placed a lot of faith in you. Go along easy, don't get in a hurry, keep your head on a swivel, double check your tie downs and permits and you'll do just fine.
If you need help or advice there are some really good OS/OW drivers on here that will take the time to walk you through a problem.

I don't think the mf'r is out of their mind.

You should have done all that to begin with. Opens more doors for you over a basic cdl with no endorsements.

I did all mine except passenger when I got my cdl. Although. Haz wasn't a PITA back then. It was an easy test.

I would do it. Had an option of doing just that very thing several years ago, turned it down. I’ve had my share of times wishing I hadn’t, but I made a good life doing something else

    Thanks for the reply’s everyone.

kinda starting to seem like I’m just in my head to much.

Just feel like I’ve skipped some levels and went straight to the big leagues and I just want to make sure I come home every night or everyone else I encounter on the road makes it home.

Oxbow, bryan21384 and Dennixx Thank this.

Well, you have skipped some levels. But you have been at it 6 months and still going strong without crashing or doing anything else bad.
Keep it up and learn all you can, because that is very impressive.

By the way... don't let it go to your head. Keep that on straight, as you have done for the past 6 months, and you should do great.

Stick with it. The opportunity to learn a niche market from seasoned drivers is a huge opportunity.

Your experience will transfer to any facet of trucking.

You'd honestly probably be safer than some of the seasoned folks out here because you don't have any bad habits that lots have developed. A lot easier to teach the importance of safety and taking your time to someone that's a little nervous than it is to get through to a 20 year driver that they're overconfident, if they have no prior experience in that niche. I've swung doors for 5 years and would know less about what you do than you knew within your first week there.
