I'm having my 99 w900 repainted and new button tuck upholstery installed. Browsed these forums to get an idea of others paint cost, which helped. Figured I would pay it forward and give an idea of the cost on my w900.
I was quoted as low as $4500 from a guy advertising on craigslist near Indianapolis. I decided to go with Kenworth of Indianapolis. A quote of $85.00 an hour for total of $10,000 in labor plus paint and any new parts. I felt like the truck was worth having the extra prep work over a massive mask job. Plus extensive body repair. hood, door skins had completely separated from frames, and corrosion along the bottom of cab.

This truck has 90,000 miles on an out of frame overhaul. Rebuilt 13 speed and power divider installed the week before it was dropped off at the body shop. Don't know final cost yet but will update when done. Will post pictures of current prep stage to give an idea of Labor and body work.

Solid color, tow tone or any stripes?
Intothesunset and Bean Jr. Thank this. -
Frame will be black. Cab will be solid metallic deep rich blue base/clear. I don't even want to know what stripes would cost. But there is roughly 30 hours just in body repair.

Do you know how much of that quote was for prep work? Like as in removing emblems, lights, bezels etc?
Got an old Kenworth A cab torn down to a shell that I gotta get out for paint one of these days.Intothesunset and Bean Jr. Thank this. -

I want to get my 1996 w900 repainted like yours. Someone painted it before from white to red and you can tell it was a hack job. From 15 feet away it looks great, up close you can see all the corners that were cut.
$10k doesn’t sound too bad after seeing the pictures. I’m afraid they would find so many issues the farther they tear it down haha. My girlfriends truck is being repainted as we speak and they tore it down like yours, except it was much easier and simplified being a 1999 Columbia. I think they quoted $3500 if it was to be the original color, and $5500 for a pearly metallic red with clear coat.MartinFromBC and Cummins_444 Thank this. -

There's a place in Elizabethtown, KY called Extreme Polishing & Detailing that paints trucks for good prices. They post on FB a lot videos of paint and polish jobs they have done. Looks like good work too. A buddy of mine has had some polish work done by them.

In general you get what you pay for with paint jobs. We got our W900 day cab painted a couple of years ago, but we did all the work of removing and reinstalling most of the stuff that had to come off for paint (headache rack, lights, air cleaners, grab handles, etc), and we swapped out some other labor to help with the price.
It's my understanding though that a decent paint job on a truck generally runs in the $15,000 range.MartinFromBC and tommymonza Thank this. -
My opinion is go original if it came with stripes or whatever. But I have always prefer one color 2 stage paint. If the truck is a really earlier style, scroll for that year and see what tones was available. In other words..... ORIGINAL..... but that’s me. Custom paint is preferable when you go all out, show truck style.
