It looks like a nice truck, especially for the age and mileage. I owned a 91 Pete myself. It should have a 63" sleeper rather than 62". I would want to know if any other work has been done to it, such as the transmission and rears. It can cost as much as $18,000 to ovehaul a CAT. If the overhaul is recent enough it would probably be worth what they are asking, but with 1.5 million miles there are other concerns that I would want to check. Busings, kin pins, and the rest of the drive train would be things that I would check before making a decision. You don't want to buy a truck and then have to start spending money on it. Another thing is CARB. The truck will not be CARB compliant and may have a very short life if you plan on running out of California without having it retrofitted.

Will be expensive on fuel! They have the aerodynamics of a brick.

As I stated above, I owned a 91 Peterbilt and never got more than 5 mpg with a Detroit. I have a friend who owned a Peterbilt with a 3406 B and he didn't do that well with a CAT. Of course, how you drive and your gearing will have an impact on your mpg.

I have a 91 379 with 3406b with 15speed. I dont know its gearing ratio. Its a tough engine, will last forever - but makes for a fuel hog going OTR. If your looking for a timber hauler, or you have short runs with good rates by all means, I would not suggest starting with this truck. Have it looked at by someone you TRUST, I got a false inspection report and my 379 needed lots of little things..10K plus on little things. Matter of fact, there is nothing little about the price of pete stuff.
For comparison, my detriot 60 500HP in my 2000 classic XL gets between 5-6 MPG. The pete gets between 4-5. Thats a 20% difference in duel and my detriot has 20% more power, makes ya think.
Anyway, its a good looking truck and that pete is clean. I would offer no more than 13k. Maybe less, those trucks are more for specialized work in my opinion. -
Turn the fuel up on the B and once you get to know how to run it your fuel mileage will get better and it will out pull that Detroit easily!

i have a 92 pete with a detroit and if i start off slow and keep my foot out of it running 70 mph all week i average 5.8 mph. I also have put a new 13 spd tranny with 355 rears. it has 1.5 mil on it i just replaced all rear bushing and front end , kingpins , draglink , bushings ect. it costs me close to 3000.00 for parts and labor plus 3 axle alignment. now it runs and rides good.

Nice clean truck, look at the sleeper, dash, pedals, all say it's been taken care of, also almost new tires. I agree with Les 2 turn a little fuel or a little more and drive it right you should get decent mileage, I've got a B and it gets as low as 4 1/2 to as high as 6 1/2, depending on the load and terrain. I don't what it's worth to you, but I wonder what some of these guys would take for their truck but I've never owned a truck that I would sell that cheap, it would part out for that, and I'm sure it could be bought for a little less. You say it's just down the road from you, I believe I would go look if your really interested as up close and personal is better than pictures anyday.

yea .. really need to think about the CARB regulations soon for California..
