We recently bought a 1978 White Road Boss. It has seen better days. But my Main question is there is a knob on the dash that has linkage to the front of the motor. What is it for? It has a cummins motor. I believe its a 350

Could it be a hand throttle...??

No there is a seprate knob for that. This one runs to the left front of motor just above water pump not to the injection pump

I don't remember what the linkage was for the engine shut down thing on the old detroit 238?
Maybe the cummins is not the original engine? -
The VT-903 (and 855) had an option for a manual fuel shut off. If the cable on the knob goes to the fuel pump, it's a good bet that's it.

Could it be a commpresion relief valve?

That's a manual emergency door locking system in case of a 1693 approaching from behind. That would keep your doors from being blown off.
