Did anyone get a Cat scale ticket last week? There was a red 359 on the ticket. I thought "nice truck" then I saw the trans and thought "Wow".

Has a 10 speed with a 4 speed brownie behind it be my guess. Popular package for the time period. 10x4 or 13x4.

Like to see under the hood.......prolly a 1693

    the truck gas 2 transmissions, a 10spd and a 4 spd.

Years ago trans did not have buttons on the shifter like 13spd and 18spd for. Mack was famous for triplex and quadaplex trans,

The aux trans would have 2 or three low gears and one or 2 overdrive gears,
Here is how a quadraplex would work,,
Put the main 5spd in the number one hole,,the aux in low-low l (1) shift the aux low- low to low then to direct then to over dive all the time leaving the main on 1st gear now comes the fun part! At the same time usually putting one arm thru the steering wheel and shift the main to 2nd and at the same time shifting the aux back to low-low, now while the main is in 2nd shift the aux tru the gears to overdrive then shift the main to 3rd while at the same time shifting the aux back to low-low and so on until the main is in 5th and the aux is shifted to overdrive ,,this will be you top gear combination,, miss a gear and it was hell to get it back in gear,,usually you stop and start all over,,to top of many trucks back then did not have power steering,, both trans were non synchronized,,in Peterbilts and Kenworths the aux trans was called a brownie trans, there were no or the only air shift on a trans was a bayonet lever on the main trans to shift from low range to high range.
Imagine the driver shortage today if trucks were like this, heck even with ultra shift many drivers can drive them,,

Dad had 1969 with a 5 and 4 two stick, and even the old 1947 Chevrolet 1 1/2 ton farm truck had a 4 spd with 3 speed brownie. The 5 and 4 was one arm through the steering wheel until you got the aux in direct, then thumb and pinky finger the rest of the way, Dad made it look easy. Straight cut gears, so if you had a brain **** things got exciting real fast with that drive shaft between the two almost coming to a stop, lol.
Never heard of a 10 and 4, a maybe later main transmission with a splitter?
I remember hearing Dad chasing the deer out of the field cheater bars clanging and air horn blasting, lol.

Most of the sticks I ever drove, you didn't go back to the bottom gear on the Brownie after 1st. And if you had a lot of gears on the front box, you'd only use the top two gears for the last couple gears on the main.

Had a 15x4 in gin truck. Never really used the brownie much, usually just started with it in 2nd, went up thru the main, and grabbed the last two in the brownie once the main was up against the dash. If I happened to have a load on the trailer, I'd use it to split climbing hills, but it was as much playing as needing to use it. Now on location, you shifted the brownie more the main. Just stuck the main in 11th, and put the brownie in low to move around location, and kick it to neutral to use the winches.

The blurb says he put another engine in it. What did it have originally and what did he put in? And tell him I said nice truck!

I'm not sure. I've only ever seen that truck once. He has a maroon 379 that's his daily driver. Next time I see him I'll get some details for you. I forgot about this article, it has a lot of info on the truck.
