The OP can handle this however they please. I will just point out Table 2 of 383.51. If this violation goes on your DMV as a 16 over it will not cost your CDL. However, get another violation of ANYTHING on table 2 for 3 years afterward and once this hits the CDLIS you get a 60-day vacation. Go look at these violations.

Best advice? Report this to your Carrier and take some of that weight off your foot, especially in the People's Republic of California!

Most carriers safety departments require that you report any tickets within a certain time frame to them. Trust me on this. DO NOT HIDE IT FROM THEM. I know from personal experience. I tried hiding a ticket once when i was young an dumb. At the end of the year they found out because they get reports from the various states they run in regarding citation an accident info on all of their drivers. I got fired. Most companies if you're up front about a ticket usually aren't gonna fire ya for one infraction.

You think your trucking career is over for getting your first ever speeding ticket? Come on man! Yeah it bad, but it’s not that bad. Reality is it can pretty much happen to any of us. I’ve never had a speeding ticket, ever in my driving life either. And that includes non-CDL. Could I have gotten one? Probably 100 times plus. Scenarios just as you described. It’s luck of the draw in reality. I never speed intentionally, but sometimes it just happens.

fight it, get it reduced, and drive on

I know the Federal law with a CDL is 2 serious tickets in a certain amount of time and your license is suspended for 60 or 90 days.

Check with your state also.....My state is 1 speeding ticket over 15mph and you lose your license for like 30 to 60 days.(went into affect this year)

Edit to add.... I see the officer who stopped you was Charlie Sheen, did you at least get an autograph??

Every time I drive, I hope to be "wreckless." I do not, however, drive in a reckless manner.

It will be worth it to get a lawyer and "try" to get it reduced regardless of if it works or not. 15+ over is considered reckless driving regardless of what kind of license you have, commercial or otherwise. I live in CA and my last speeding ticket was in 2004 for 15 over in my private vehicle and it's STILL on my record to this day although it doesn't count against me for insurance or applying for jobs. No matter what I'm driving, if I'm pushing a little over the speed limit I always make sure I keep it under that 15mph threshold.

Get a lawyer and fight the ticket.

If you don't speed your chances of dealing with an unfair cop drop almost to zero.
What is the company policy about how soon you have to report any tickets?

Not remembering someone telling you to do something does not protect you if you are supposed to do it.

If you weren't speeding you wouldn't have to worry if the cop is being fair or not. If you think cops are not fair you would drive under the speed limit so even an unfair cop can't prove you were in violation.
