This is what happened to me a few months ago. I am driving a 2004 fl century with two 150 g tanks. I have in dash computer that shows how much fuel I used and the average mpg. I was on i-80 in Nebraska when the engine shut down and I pulled over on the shoulder. I looked on computer and it said that I used 210 g of fuel. I was about to call for help when noticed a flying j 100 meters away. What a coincidence ! So I grabbed my wallet and went there. I bought a 5 gallon can, put diesel in it and went back to truck. I did this two times. It took me 2 hours going back and forth. I started the truck and drove almost to the sign where it says Trucks here --> when engine stopped working. I knew there was about 10 gal in tanks. I went inside flying j and asked for help. The guy who worked there sprayed starting fluid into air intake and I started it and drove to the pumps. How surprised I was when both tanks only took 240 gallons of diesel. On the tanks it says clearly 150 . Where is the catch ? Where is another 60 gal ? I will appreciate If anyone could explain me where did 60 gal go ???

Either someone stole fuel out of it or its not drawing evenly out of both tanks. Its possible when it quit one tank was empty and one tank had about 50 gallons in it. You added 10 gallons which left room for 240 gallons. When one tank went empty it sucked air through that tank and died. If that happens again I would recommend sticking the tanks before walking to get fuel. It would be way faster to transfer fuel from one tank to the other than carry it from the truck stop.

probably into someone elses fuel tank if you dont have locking fuel caps. Have you seen the price of fuel lately?
Or when you fueled up the meter was wrong or you read it wrong

You do realize that you can only actually use about 270 of those 300 gallons right? You will run out of useable fuel before the tanks are empty. You also lose capacity because it's a round tank on its side, you can't fill it clear to the top. 10% is a really good mark for deducting from capacity to figure out how much useable fuel you actually have.

    aiwiron Thanks this.
