So despite trying to stay local/regional, I might have to consider taking farther loads to make any scratch. I'm already keeping the usual cleaning supplies on the truck. But I just need a simple water boiler to cook things like Ramen or Mac'N'Cheese to avoid having to go into some place that looks the slightest bit crowded.
12V water heater for cooking.

This may be a bit more than you’re looking for, but it’s awesome. Only uses 350 watts and will cook all kinds of stuff. Put your pasta n water in, plug it in and forget about it until you hear the click. Throw some meat in the bottom and it’ll cook that too. Steams veggies pretty well also. I like that the lid is attached so I don’t have to worry about it flying while driving. I think it was under $20 when I bought it but maybe I hit a sale.

I used a propane cooker for a while. 12v is not good for doing heat, better to get a bigadze inverter.
PE_T and bentstrider83 Thank this. -
Plug in inverters are limited to 150W, because that is all the plug can handle.
But a 12V lunchbox oven, about $30 at any truck stop, will heat things up nicely.
But it won't be real quick. Probably around 45 minutes for Ramen.
I have even done baked potatoes in them. 2-3 hours for that.
Never Mac'n'Cheese though. Doing it right takes a bit more than I will carry on the truck, even with a good inverter. And that instant crap is just that.
Even with the inverter, I still use my lunchbox oven for rice and veggies. Heating a can of soup or beans... many other things.D.Tibbitt, tscottme, bentstrider83 and 2 others Thank this. -
Them 12v cookers are nice but I don't know how you all make do with them.
I burned up the socket system in 3 different FL's.
The sockets just quit putting out enough power to be of any use. Couldn't even get enough amperage to charge my cell.Doealex Thanks this. -
I have burned up plugs with a few 12V coolers, and sockets. Coleman comes to mind. They are worse with some trucks, and maybe more with the current version of the cooler.
That made me spend nearly twice as much on an Igloo cooler.
Still 12V, but it can also plug in to the inverter if needed. So it can also be used at home, if needed.
The 12V connection is better in my opinion. On 12V the cooler will cycle on and off to maintain the temp, but on 120V with the inverter it is always on. And needing to have the inverter on 24/7 is probably not a good thing.
And it has a thermostat knob, so I can somewhat control it that way.
The plug always stays barely warm to the touch. No more burning out plugs or sockets.
Touch the Coleman plug for more than a fraction of a second and you might blister.
I'm wondering what I will find when I finally need to replace the fan.
The Coleman was easy. A standard computer case fan and I could use several different sizes.
But this one will make me take off the whole back of the unit, more than a dozen screws. And what is behind curtain number one when I get in there?
Still, I find it a better cooler than the Coleman in many ways.tscottme and bentstrider83 Thank this. -
Instead of a "lunchbox" heater, get the digital cooker by the same company. It costs a little more, but you never need to buy the foil pans and the temperature is adjustable.
D.Tibbitt, tscottme and bentstrider83 Thank this. -
We used dutch ovens. The little clams. Size of a loaf of bread. Plug em in and wait half a day. Its hot then.
Thats the difference between 12 volt and 120 volt. Hot and slow or hot and fast.
If its a 12000 volt line to house then you can expect bones to explode from your skin. Instant dehydration. -
The little heat elements plug into the Cigarette lighter socket. They are cheap, but are good for tea or coffee, soup or chill,

Truckstops do sell a water cooker. Can't remember the exact wording.
I used it for ramen.bentstrider83 Thanks this.
