I agree in part. But there are probably just as many, if not more, cars going too fast for the conditions. And he fails to entertain the possibility that cars cutting off trucks or slamming on their brakes could be the cause of a lot of these accidents.

I agree about speed and conditions. People here in Maryland drive like crap, and that goes downhill really fast in inclement weather.

What the article fails to mention is that Maryland blew their snow removal budget last month and are now operating well below what they should.

We are still digging out from this blast...and have another 12" coming Tuesday night.

Illinois is no better. Like Jmurman said the crews do a crappy job as it is cleaning the roads. Half the time they put chemicals and salt down but it gets washed away so it's pretty much useless. If people drove a lot slower there wouldn't be any accidents but everyone is so worried about getting their first they risk their safety.

I don't know about Public Enemy No. 1 but for the most part I would agree with the guy. I have to wonder about the following though...

perhaps if he addressed that the majority of drivers get paid by the mile, load/trip etc, he could find why they were in a hurry?

I have to disagree with you Baack. While I do believe that any jack-knifed Truck is the sole responsibitity of the driver, I have to wonder how this situation could have been avoided. I learned in school (This ones for you RICKG) that your best friend is a cushion of space around your vehicle. This ia alot harder to create when you are doing 30mph in the snow and these stupid 4-wheelers are cutting you off left and right taking away your space that you are trying to create for yourself. Also, you can jack knife a truck in several different ways. I have seen trucks going 5mph up a steep road only to be cut off by a 4-wheeler and have to hit his breaks. Now he cannot get traction and while his tires are spinning his truck slides back creating the jack knife. People do not realize how many stupid people's lives are "SAVED" each day by truck drivers.:biggrin_25514:

While I usually have very negative things to say about state DOT, I drove down I95 last night to Rovkville MD and have to say that they have a ton of equipment out there and they are busting their butts to get it cleaned up for the upcoming week.
BTW- I95 south was shut down at exit 47 last night and the back roads were even worse but I do not think there was one DOT worker or cop not on duty last night. Hats off to those guys.
