It should be standard across the entire industry. However I doubt every single operator does it. The FMCSA mandates that a driver qualification file be started on every driver. This is work history and driving record history too. Then the FMCSA mandates this file be reviewed every year. These (investigations) rules are why I snigger every time I see somebody advise going to a carrier that does not use DAC. DAC is only a tool that helps a carrier comply with these rules. The carrier is still bound by the FMCSA to look into your background.
FMCSA rule mandating 10 year history >> §383.35
FMCSA rule mandating qualification file >> §391.51
FMCSA rule mandating yearly review >> §391.25ZVar Thanks this. -
So homesteading in Alaska for 13 years ending 5 years ago, i.e. 5 years of work history, disqualifies me for employment?
Yet a 22 year old is in like flint?
I don't get it...RefMata Thanks this. -

"(c) The following employment history information for the 10 years preceding the date the application is submitted shall be presented to the prospective employer by the applicant:
(1) A list of the names and addresses of the applicant's previous employers for which the applicant was an operator of a commercial motor vehicle."
People have posted on here that they didn't work for several years because they were partying while blowing through an inheritance and they still went right to work after cdl school.Last edited: May 9, 2018

Yes, as @Long FLD said. Also remember you only have to account for the time. Just be ready to supply supporting information if it is asked for.

When you fill out an application LOOK AT THE QUESTIONS CLOSELY. Answer that question as honest as you can. Don't answer information not asked for. The time a company goes back in regard to employment history varies from company to company. I have noticed some online applications will ask for a none CDL history going back 3 to 7 years. Just go back as far as you can. If you do not have a cdl and never had one ignore these driving history questions. The thing is be honest but don't volunteer any information not asked for.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
the 10 yr work history is mandatory however only 3 yrs need to be verified per the Feds. Besides, a 23 yr old really wont have 10 yrs working unless you count his paper route and lawn mowing service
