Turbo is close to failing on 07 9400i Cummins ISX. Put it in shop for exhaust leak and found turbo is beginning to leak oil. This independent shop wants $4100 to put a turbo on it. Dealer quoted $3500. Can anyone recommend shop anywhere that is honest and cheaper?

there is a company out of california that sells brand new units for a fraction of the cost of rebuilt units you get from dealership. i just got one for my volvo for $520 compared to the rebuilt one from dealer that wanted $2100!! Downside is i had to wait a week on shipping because i live on the east coast.

You can expect around $1000 in labor (it's about an 8 hr or so, maybe a lil more or less depending on where you go)

I highly recommend jmturbo.com....very prompt service and brand new units, no core charge and one yr warranty you can expect the same level of performance from these aftermarket turbos as you can from a dealer unit

    losttrucker and IUFAN87 Thank this.

To r x r a turbo on an isx should not be more than 4 hrs an international to that's got a lot of space to do the work. You can come by where I work if you're in the Chicagoland area were honest and you'll get the work done right whatever you need our hour charge is bout 85 right now.

$520 for a turbo sounds way too cheap for an ISX with a VGT turbo.

It's is cheap for Vgt. The $520+$72 shipping is what I paid for my Volvo turbo which is not vgt. The Vgt unit is 2100, 680 for isx1 and isx signature 450, 850 for replacement cartridge and 450 for vnt repair kit. I was just letting him know they had parts avail for a few dollars cheaper, didn't intend to mislead. Exceptional service, very helpful over the phone and a pleasure to do business all around. Plus the units are brand new not rebuilt, no core charge and the same 1 yr parts warranty!

    Hi,
Any way you could give me a little more info on that company from CA that sells turbos. I just got mine leaking on 08 Prostar with 186k... I must be unluckiest out there to get turbo leaking with such a low mileage.
    thanks!!

Jmturbo.com. Give em a call, really helpful people. Don't know if they have one for prostar but they may still be able to point you in the right direction

My '06 ISX w/VGT has been leaking for approx. 2 years under the waste gate. I now have just over 924,000 miles. I was getting an avg. 6.5 MPG until the gaskets and seals had to be replaced between the block and the gear box. (#### polar vortex) Now my avg. is somewhere between 5..5 and 6.0, it had been suggested by Cummins that my charge air cooler may now have a leak because they (Kenworth) had to remove everything from the front of my engine and may have jiggled something loose, or left something loose.

... an update! 2 years in the making. My '06 9400i has 1 million,105,000 miles and can still avg. 6.5-6.85 mpg.
The wastegate actuator thingy is still dripping oil on the frame, but the VGT Turbo is still going strong!
I've had this truck since 456,000 miles, the #### ICON stopped working years ago. Change the oil before 26,000
miles religiously and my oil stays clean. I run the crap out of this truck doing Intermodal and she just moves right along. Of course, I keep the tach around 1425-1450 to keep a good MPG, so if you pass me on the hiway out here in the central midwest doing around 63 MPH just smile ...wave...and move on 'cause my profits are going straight to the bank.
    Thanks Ya'll
God Bless and have a Great Day
