sorry about all this...[/QUOTE]
from what I can find this part may be the Turbocharger control shutoff valve filter...
and is leaking air from a small round diaphragm or pressure relief valve on top, see the yellow arrow in the pic.
this seemed to start leaking when I noticed a piece of hose leaking from the egr mixer to the compressor, was blowing a lot of air and my compressor had to keep cycling on to keep the psi up. I fixed that and noticed the small diaphragm leaking as well.
I guess the question is. can I remove that Turbocharger control shutoff valve filter and clean it to fix it, or would I need a new one?
and anything I should be aware of when removing it?
any help is greatly appreciated.

I think there was a thread about somewhere here. I believe the turbo shutoff control solenoid is not serviceable, and rather expensive to replace, but I think someone here did actually take one apart and successfully clean it.
-
I found a similar thread, but with no answers or further info and it was from 09...
and something about a spin off filter that is replaceable, but I don't think this is my issue, and there is no spin off filter.
here is the thread.

now I spose my question would be, do I have the right part or name of it?
and any issues with taking it off? -
I know the part you are talking about, I think that is like a first revision or something. The one you have is what we see all the time. In Canada here I think they price about $1100! I don't know why they are so expensive, probably supply/demand thing. Give me your engine serial number, and I will see if that control valve breaks down with a service kit or something.
-
YIKES! $1100... ESN - 79058461
so does this unit just pop off there, looks like just 2 bolts holding it to the block?
and can I run the truck without damaging anything else?
although I'm sure it wont be doing my compressor any good, constantly having to build the pressure, I'll burn that thing up in short order. -
found this in quickserve

the low mount is what I'm referring to, as I guess you know already.
so that rig just pops off, but we don't know if there's any serviceable parts in there.
I removed the small round cap of the diaphragm on top and cleaned it, looked like there wasa small piece of dirt in there, but didn't fix anything, still blowing air out of there.
I don't dare take this thing apart yet, waiting to hear from you.
and thank you for your time and efforts bro -
oh and it does not leak when the engine is off, or when the key is in the on position
-
Engine must be actually running, ECM will energize this valve to send air to the turbo. I think with no air the turbo is partially closed and will not allow max boost, or be very slow to build. I can't remember exactly, but I do know when the engine sees it isn't developing the proper boost for given operating conditions it will derate to protect itself. Either way I don't recommend to run with it either propped open or closed. I just see the valve in the parts break-down, no rebuild kits or separate internal parts. Yes, just two bolts, your wiring connector and the air lines to take this off. Here are the compatible part numbers, 4037440, 4039813, 4046304, 2836554 and 3770742. The first number is original to your engine, the last number is the latest parts revision. The other numbers are other variations where they just used different body materials for whatever reason. I searched a bit. I don't see any aftermarket rebuild kits, just the whole unit. Retailing around $1000. There some used on Ebay for about half of that. Try to search those numbers, someone out there may have one cheap. Try salvage yards too. Hope this helps!
