I'm trying to remove the factory head unit and replace it with a newer one on my truck, it's a 2003 T600. I removed all the screws along the top of the dash panel (near the defroster vents) thinking the top piece would separate from the rest. Instead it still appears to be attached to the whole entire dash assembly and I can move the entire assembly back and fourth a bit. Is there a way to separate the horizontal piece from the vertical face of the rest of the dash? Can't figure this out and don't want to force it too much and crack something. Thanks!

Does the radio have holes on the left and right side of the faceplate? There should be four, two on each side. If you stick something in each hole at the same time, and gently pry outward on whatever you stick in the holes, that will release the radio from the metal frame around it. Then just pull it out, disconnect wires and replace with new radio. There's a radio removal tool just for that style radio, but I dunno where you'd get one

you get the tools at any auto parts store.they are called "Ford radio removal tools"They were used by Ford for many years.Takes about 5 seconds with tools.Google it so you can see what they look like.O'reilly"s sells it for sure.Taking dash off/apart won't even help you if you succeeded.Radio is made to slip in/out of it's cage.good luck.
dieselfuelonly and MJ1657 Thank this. -

The dash top doesn't come off... at least not in any easy way. Anything that needs done inside the dash can be done through the front panels.

No worries as long as it came out OK. What HU are you going to replace it with?
