We've got a 2010 International 8600 with an Eaton Ultrashift 10 speed. The other day the driver said the service light came on on the console shifter after a short trip. Today the driver shut the truck off and when tried to restart the truck, it wouldn't start. We quickly figured out the reason the truck wasn't starting was it was in gear and the neutral light wasn't on in the console. We drove back to the shop to get a wrench to disconnect the batteries. When we got back to the truck, the driver jumped in the truck and it started back up without disconnecting the batteries. I purchased a copy of Road Ranger software on ebay to pull codes out of transmission and the only code it had in it was something about truck was shut down without putting in neutral which could cause a no start situation. No I'm thinking that maybe the driver did this and that's why it didn't start back up. Problem is the yesterday the service light went on before this happened. Anyone know these transmissions well and can point me in the right direction. Unfortunately, none of the independent shps know these transmissions well and even the International dealer said they rarely work on them. I just don't want to be paying the dealer $125 per hour to try and fix the problem.

I've been fighting the same kind of intermittent gremlin with my autoshift (still have the clutch pedal).
It happened again today. Tried resetting the computer with the key method and pulled the fuse. But wouldn't start. Just a dash and flashing F.
Then my driver remembered someone telling him awhile back to try tapping the x-y shifter on top the transmission. So he took a small pipe...tapped it a couple times...heard the transmission click a few times and stop.
He jumped in and turned the key and he had neutral...it fired right up.
I'm thinking either my XY shifter is getting weak or a wire going to it. Supposedly there is a plate in the cab under the carpet that allows access to the top of the tranny. I'll be able to see all the wires up there and check for bad connections. -

I got a pretty decent price on this truck and considering trying to find a shop to swap it over to a manual. The xy shifter alone is worth about 1200 bucks. Not to mention the TCU and sensors and wiring harness.
My old Western Star with the 18 speed goes into neutral with the move of a gearshifter. Never dings at me when I try shift a gear either lol -
We bought the truck a few years ago used and the transmission has been flawless till now. I bought it because drivers are getting scarce. I'm a contractor so my drivers are double duty, they drive and they labor. It makes it tough to find a driver. Anyways, it is a pain when they break. Hope we get it figured out soon.

our company made a huge buy of eaton autoshift trucks in 07 and decided it was a mistake
alot of drivers think since its an automatic they dont have to worry about the clutch brakes
alot dont know what a clutch brake is
the mechanics said it was killing them fixing all the clutch brakes
i had a new assigned truck with the allison tranny.
