I am looking for anyone that has used this program through the state of michigan . what is the average wait time for funding to be approved to pay for the training. Can't seem to get a straight answer from my case manager.
I have already completed all the requirement for Michigan work and filled out my application for funding. Only to connect my case manager after three weeks to be informed that it was still sitting on her disk.
If anyone has went through this process what was your experience?
Any information would be greatly appreciated and any helpful advice as to speeding up this process would be helpful.
To everyone that replies thank you upfront.

I'm in middle of the process myself.... got everything done but the STEPS class and the ITA contract.... was told it'd be 1-2 weeks after that.
Good Luck! -
"Still sitting on her desk" - no matter what state you are in, that's not acceptable, unless there's a step in the process where she's waiting on you. If she hasn't said anything about it, maybe you should ask. Just to be safe
-
Or you could try a slightly different approach.....
Contact her and casually mention how you are looking forward
to getting started... then just ask, " so what's my next step?"
and if she tries to brush you off with "it's still on my desk"
then try to find out what further steps there are in the approval
process....
Find out the details, and you nail her down.... remove her 'wiggle room' -
Thanks schlepper004, I contacted my case manager's supervisor today and explained to her what the stat of my case manager had told me that it was still sitting on her disk and asked why. after being completed for 3 week's and asked if there had any job openings in the case managers department?
She explained that she would look into the situation and get back to me in a day or two, after about 30 mins, she called me back stating that she was not happy with the way that the person was not doing her job, so she herself signed and approved my file. She stated that the normal processing time to this is usually 4 to 6 weeks after completing you ITA with you case manager. But that she pushed it to the top to list for processing.
You stated that you have not completed your step class nor ITA you need to get all those step classes done with after you have completed all the step classes they will schedule your Initial intake assessment with your case manager.
I find out through a friend that work for them, that they are not going to tell you anything to make this process any easier. Do the classes Monday thru friday and make sure you have completed career scope and TABE assessment all this needs to be done before they will give you your assigned case manager and appointment time.
I have completed everything career scope, TABE, step classes and ITA, so there was no reason for my paperwork to still be sitting on her desk just lazy. Hope this help someone in the same situation and you need to stay on them if not they do not care should I say some don't care about helping you because they already have a job to take care of their family.
Thanks everyone

Special Ops-
Glad to hear you got a satisfactory resolution....
My intake worker was just tickled pink that I had all the prerequisite paperwork ready
on my first meeting with her. Once I got my TIP and DOT card,
she signed me up for the next Steps class immediately (I got the last slot.. LOL)
I think she is tired of dealing with halfa ssed applicants
who don't really want a job.... she seems to be pushing me through!
By 1st of the year I should be licensed and ready to be on the road. -
glad to see something is happening for yah.
My case worker actually left in the middle of the process and I got handed off to another (maternity leave, three weeks early...) And I still had my approval in 2 weeks.
Hope to see both of y'all on the road soon -
see you on the road as well, lurch!

I'm on the far west of all of you.....15 minutes north of Muskegon.
Had to go to Michigan Works in the next county south, as my county won't fund CDL training.
Been a real eye-opener, and a good reminder as to why I left state employment 7.5 years ago. State employees are lazy.
Wife and I both went through MWLB, and should both have vouchers in hand this week. Lots of things they don't tell you, and we jumped through all of their hoops. Felt like I was applying for welfare.
We should be starting CDL training in Muskegon on 1/5/09.
Have to get a foot out the door of this state. It's beautiful, but there is nothing here anymore.
Hope to see you on the road! -
Andyjk9, thanks for the information . You stated that they had you jumping through hoops, can you explain to me what else is left. Since my case manager was informed by her supervisor 2 weeks ago that she approved the paper work to go to the top of the list.
I have heard nothing from this lazy good for nothing ##### in reference to anything else that I need to do. I had my intake assessment on October 29, after sitting on her desk for 3 weeks and then being turned in after contacting her supervisor .
Can you tell me what else is there to expect from this program, all that I am waiting on now is the approval for class cost. The school has been in constance contact with me as to when can I start. I also have several pre-hire with different companies that I feel with no be there if the place keep dragging their feet.
I have never in my life had to collect unemployment or ask for help for school and now I am beginning to understand why this state is in so much trouble job wise. Most of the people at Michigan work don't want to invest in their worker that are out of a job, like the govern has expressed it all a bid to get people in this state to work for minimal wages. I don't know about you but I cannot survive on 8 to 9 dollars per hour work when this state is putting all of us in the pooooooooooooor house.
This state is becoming just like Indiana, where you can't even get a job unless you first go through temp services. I have family their and they say that the whole country is becoming like this, that to me is the defined meaning of communist country, slave labor to say the least.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
P.S country sure has away of showing all us Veteran's what a great jobless country this is truly turning into, My wife said that we need to bring all the soldiers home and I say for what atleast they have a job and away to support their family.
