Have any of you drivers had to secure permission to enter Canada with a background. How do I go about this and what were the costs of doing this? How long is the process?
Thank you and be safe.

You can find the application at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM1444E.pdf and a general outline of the process at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/rehabil.asp.
I applied years ago. They said it would take about 1 year to process at the time I applied but after that year was up all I got was an email telling me they are behind some and still processing my application. 2 ½ years after that (3 1/2 years total) I am still waiting.
When I first applied they sent conformation that they received my application along with a case number. I’m not sure why they bothered with a case number because in the same response they made a point of saying not to ever contact them and that there was no way to check on the application at all.NavigatorWife and KriegHund Thank this. -

Isis bomber has a better chance than you getting across that border and you just might be detained for awhile for just trying.Getting your passport and setting up your approval with the Canadian government is the first step I believe.

Not asking. Its none of my business. But i would expect it depends on the conviction and time passed.
KriegHund Thanks this. -
Time past means nothing.... You don't even need to be conviced only arrested .....
You guys lost your mind after 9/11 and now a little weed /alcohol problem 20 years ago keeps you out of Canada .....
I live close to the border and have been there many times but not any more....
P.S. The loads never paid that great anyways. We need a wall on both borders . -
Most information I've read. Cost can be up to $2,500. This is for DUI.or felony conviction.
I guess Canadians don't drink and drive.
The process will take a year or more.
I think this is for everyone not just cdl drivers.Last edited: Aug 21, 2016
