Recommended according to what? Psi? Load weight? Right now I run all tires at 100 psi. Is that under inflated? Over? Just right? I'm hauling 46000 in the tank. Grossing 76xxx.

If you look at the load chart link I posted you can see the load limits and pressure required. A fully loaded truck at 80k can have tires well below 100psi

According to the chart with my 24.5 tires I can inflate to 70psi and carry 18,640 on each pair of drive tires. The only time I've seen tires blow is when they went flat from a nail while under a load, got it fixed then it blew. Once a tire goes flat you have ruined the sidewall and it's only a matter of time before it goes.

wel if you guys want to wreck you tires because of an incorrect artical...go right ahead. tzire charts are for optimal conditions...not actual driving conditions.

I was just thinking, a tire at 70 or even 85 lbs, would not the tires on a tandem be rubbing each other? when 1 of mine is low it is real close to the tire next to it. my weight varies, 80,000 gross 180 miles, then dead head sometimes 60 miles, then 70,000 gross, then the next day, 55,000 gross, so should I inflate & deflate every time I load/unload ? I have my tire p.s.i. based on my max weight of 80,000 I looked at the tables, & according to it, I could run a lot lower p.s.i. even at max wt, but I just feel very uncomfortable looking at any of my tires with that low of air pressure.

Funny how a lot of tire shops feel uncomfortable airing tires up over 105 unless they cage tire but kr junkies have no issue going 120 to 130 psi on their tires ... Ps any defect in RIM and your facing a potential bomb ... Didn't the maintenance counsel issue a warning to their carriers that they should check tire pressures because some guy on radio had told them to run higher pressures than what some rims were rated for a few years back

Michilan testing shows an aluminum rim will withstand 400 psi. Even with dings it will hold way over 120 psi. Most rims are rated for at least 120.

A tire shop we use has a 25 yr tire man with half his face scarred when the lip of the rim let go on what appeared to be a perfectly fine rim he refuses to air up over a 100 psi and I don't blame him if there's a defect hi pressure will find it sooner than recommended pressure besides the gain in fuel milage is small but the extra stresses from the hard tires pounding the suspension probably eat that up anyways long term I bet it's a wash anyways

For every .1 mpg gain you save $1400 a year on fuel roughly if you run 120,000 miles a year. So no it's not a wash.
