Anybody know whats happening with this? Sears owns SLH. Sears might be closing down or get sold. IS this going to affect the SLH?
Kinda new around here, figured this might be a good place to get the scoop. I work in a terminal in Winnipeg for a different company, have some driver friends who might get affected.
Any help is appreciated!
Cheers

If sears closes there won't be any stuff to ship i'd say.
Writing is on the wall it seems, similar story to when zellers closed with the changes currently taking place. Have a friend in town who works in the service dept. They went from 7 techs to 3. Manager told them off the record consider looking for work. -
Sears is currently discussing selling Sears Canada. I haven't seen anything indicating they are planning to close, or that a new owner would buy a chain of stores to close them all.
Case in point:
Towers sold to Zellers and operated in profit for 20 years.
Target bought Zellers and closed them all and are now losing billions each year and have just fired the executive who oversaw this unmitigated disaster.
Just wanted to add that I worked for HBC (not Zellers) about 15 years ago. At that time, I was constantly approached by other mall employees telling me about how we were closing, and we would be out of our jobs, etc.
This type of alarmism only undermines the public's confidence. All these years later and the store in worked in is still there, after 30ish years and I'm sure the public still constantly "educate" the staff there about how they will soon be out of a job, etc etc etc.
I long suspected Walmart was somehow fuelling these insidious "whisper campaigns" since they are the only ones benefitting from the constant uncertainty in a (relatively) stable sector.Last edited: May 22, 2014

SLH hauls a lot - A LOT - more then just Sears stuff. The contracts SLH has are worth something. If Sears Can shuts down, SLH would likely be sold off. I'll assume the drivers/brokers would follow the work.

JVOGAN Thanks this.

They pull UPS out of Vancouver airport location as well as some canada post.

They haul EB Smith jam in SW Ontario, Kellogs out of London(but thats closing so not for long) also fed ex..My hubby is a driver for them, he does peddle runs though as thats the "guaranteed work" As the outside contract work seems to be hit and miss.

Rumor on the East a Coast is Armour is buying 51% of SLH. anybody else heard anything??
-
Haven't heard that. Pretty interesting though. Other drivers talking about that?

I have also seen SLH in Atlantic Canada advertising lately for company drivers, peddle drivers, and O/O ............. so what do we make of all that ??
