I'm new here, folks, so bear with me if you will... :)

A buddy and I have been taking back and forth about doing local delivery only (state of Texas only) hotshot (open flatbed trailer) as a start up business. I have a vehicle that I'm actually thinking about selling because of it's unreliability.

    But my questions are these:

1). Is this business even worth getting into?
2). Insurance; what do I need? How much do I need? Where do I get it? Is it expensive (ballpark price ranges)?
3). What kind of brokerage should I pursue? Recommended brokers?
4). Should I lease myself to a company?
5). Licensing; What kind of licensing will I need? Do I have to get a CDL license if my total weight is under 26,000 lbs.? What are the rules for weights and USDOT and / or TXDOT #'s that I might need / will need?

Watch your fuel your state is full of thieves.

    Bad.

I wouldn't trust you if we meet in a rest area. XD

    Advice/troll complete.

    Good luck.

I run leased to a company in Houston using my 2003 Ram 2500 and a Gooseneck when I need it (18ft). In a Good week I bring home $1000. Average is $600 or so.
I'd get with another company if I thought it would be worth it.
But this one works with me in certain ways that I just don't think others might.

I know a few drivers that run their own authority.

But I can't afford to get a 3500 and 40 footer so I'll just keep on keeping on.

Are you sure you're on this side of the border?

there is a company that does oil field stuff that was willing to hire a guy that just had a 3/4 ton truck and no trailer. when we met he was running a small load to Louisiana. he had put 300,000 miles on his gasser.
