Perhaps you may want to check out Tyson Foods out of Springdale Arkansas. Their telephone number is 1-800-933-6442. They can give you information on their company approved truck driving schools, some of them being at various community colleges at various locations.

Tyson Foods has a reputation of treating their drivers very well, along with having really decent pay and benefits. I do believe that Texas is one of their hiring area states. It never hurts to find out for sure.

Tyson Foods hauls beef, chicken, pork, ham, lamb, mutton, and other frozen foods. They work all year round. They primarily haul their own product and go to all 48 states. To my knowledge, Tyson Foods does NOT go to Canada or Mexico.

    Good luck to you.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

Go to Texas. You can find good schools there and if you are unemployed there are grants and other ways to pay for it. There are frac companies that will take you without a CDL. Like I said go back through the older threads and you will find a wealth of information.
Texas isn't Arizona where the state will cut you adrift if you aren't working. Texas is very proactive about training and getting people to work. You can find a good school here and pay nominal costs to attend but you can't do that if you aren't here.
Again, go back and read the threads. I have been reading through them for three weeks now and I have about 40 pages of notes and insights already.

Or go to craigslist Odessa find a room to rent. Get your cdl through one of those rent a truck places. Get a job at a frac or wireline or coil tubing company and make 80000 your first year with seven days off a month.

If you want to get into hauling crude oil you will need to attend an accredited cdl school or you will end up with a company you don't like. If you go to an accredited school Sunoco will hire you straight out of school. You just need to get going. No telling when things will slow down a bit.

You can't find work as a teacher? I live in Houston and there is a huge demand for qualified teachers here.

If you're in AZ, you're actually close to some pretty nice work options. If you're okay with tanker work, there's geothermal trucking jobs not far away (hauling water). Those jobs may only require a CDL-A + tanker endorsement, so you wouldn't necessarily have to start off OTR. You might be able to skip the need for a hazmat endorsement, too.

I don't think any of those companies will pay for CDL school, though. Are you able to get any financial help through your local Workforce/Employment Services office? Where I live, we have access to assistance via the Workforce Investment Act. Some of my CDL classmates got as much as $3,000 for school and some added that to VA funding. I would investigate that method rather than go straight into paid CDL training through Swift/Knight/Stevens. Starting off with some of these carriers is hard enough without being indentured to them.

You guys are all very helpful. I just wish someone could "nail it" for me.
Someone said..."go to Odessa/Midland, Texas because the most oil jobs are there. Someone else said the Eagle Ford Shale south of San Antonio."
    OKAY.
My 1st goal is to find out about Texas residency and check out CDL schools. Some schools wont let you attend without a valid Texas D.L. and an address.
My 2nd goal is to move to Odessa/Midland, TX once I determine a cdl school and room for rent and Texas D.L.
The 3rd goal is to find a CDL school in Odessa/Midland area that is low cost and doable.
I was told go to Southwest trucking schooling here in Arizona before I go to Texas. However, I heard Southwest Trucking just gets you a basic CDL and many trucking companies will not hire you with just a cdl. Many want schooling along with your cdl. That confuses me.
My 4rd goal is to apply with Chesapeake or some oil & energy trucking companies. Someone who hires "rookies with no experience."

    More homework is needed.

If you get into the service side of thing like frac, coil, wireline, cement, tools you won't need schooling or experience. Just the license. I started in the trucking side. I hauled water for four years and it was a waste of time. If I had it to do over again I would have got into the service side when I started.
