You are correct. Stability is there.
I hauled freight for a few years, steady and regular, to a point it was BORING to me.
Keep in mind, hauling freight term. to term., your workday will start around 8pm till 8am. I hope you are a night owl, and are able to sleep during the day.
Also, freight for UPS will be on a tight schedule, you can bet on it. so at 4am when you get sooooo sleepy you can barely go(been there) you have to keep trucking. They want that load of freight on the dock at 7am PERIOD...
Freight is steady work, just not for me. That defeats the purpose of me becoming an Owner/OP. IMO
Not trying to sway you either way, just trying to give info on how the freight buisness works.
Best Of Luck, whatever you decide.US MARINE Thanks this. -
Just my opinion i would go with what the guy is telling you and look at leasing the trailer and pulling for 1.70-2.00 all miles. If it doesnt work out then go to UPS i would take that chance for 2.00 all miles and i think your wife would like the extra money coming in what wife doesnt LOL....just my opinion not an expert.Like the guy said earlier they are very strict bump one of their trailers you might be out the door bump ur own who cares its urs.Remember you became an o/o to make as much money as posible not to just get by if thats the case you mine as well sell thetruck get a local job and be home with your wife everyday.
US MARINE and whoopNride Thank this. -
I would try to give advice to a Marine but why? War is something you fly over not something you walk through.
That being said, my nephew works for UPS. You might look good in those shorts that they wear. Good luck in your new uniform. -
If you are an O/O... Steady, safe, secure, dependable, stability, consistent, reliable, etc. These may well describe you. They do not remotely fit the description of an industry that can fall apart with an oil embargo, a hiccup in insurance actuarial tables, new legislation, and a host of others ranging from insane to inane.
If you are an O/O... You are already a gambler. Play to your personal strengths. They are already listed above. -
Just can't afford a huge mistake ... And like I say Stability and Reliabilty is what I'm looking for with Consistency ... Like I say you can make 3.00 a mile but if you only get 100 miles a week 3.00 is a arbitrated number a fictitious expectation to this industry ..
Stability in this economy is worth a lot in my estimation .. -
I agree, you should go for it. You will make more money in the long run.

I think it's prob for the best ... UPS has allot to offer I've called other
" higher paying " companies but after you take in consideration the
Plate
permits
trailer fees
wait time
tolls
scales
It's really that much of a difference .. Then through in the 99% drop swap and 95% Term to term and light freight ... Along with the Stability of the nations largest trucking company ... I'm gonna go BROWN ( UPS )pete1 Thanks this. -
